Chapter 37
Chapter 26
Anya
My dream continues with me fighting the Linch and his skeleton goons with Uncle Grandpa, Fin, Jake, and Pizza Steve, who is riding Giant Realistic Flying Tiger while shooting guns up from the sky. After I take down a few enemies, a familiar voice calls out to me.
"Anya! Watch out!"
Huh?
I turn around, and before I know it, the Linch King is firing his green fire at me. I thought that was the end of me until someone pushed me out of the way. My back hit the ground, but my eyes are still on the Linch. I can see him being defeated by all powers and weapons of the people combined. I turn my head to see who saved me. It was Sadie in a dress, a long skirt on the bottom, and a metal chest plate on top. With a golden sword in her right, she reaches her left arm out to me. When I take it, she pulls me up, and her hand slowly slides down to my waist. "Are you alright, my beloved queen?"
"Q-queen?" I'm so starstruck by what I see—her beautiful face—that I can't produce words properly.
"Yeah, silly!" Her giggle...Fuck.
"You-"
"The queen of my heart and our kingdom of Sandienya."
"Sadienya-?"
"Our own world."
My heart begins to beat, and my eyes start watering. "Only ours."
And she pulled me to a kiss.
Our own world…
Only ours…
And no one can stand in between it-
"Hey!"
Now, what is that?
I blink my eyes, still not ready to wake up.
Wait.
I'm..waking up?
IT'S A DREAM?! Fuck! What's next? A person named Sadie doesn't exist?! And I'm in a coma all this time?!
Every attempt to open my eyes, all I see is a blur. I rub my eyes carefully and blink until my eyesight is clear. I am staring at an unfamiliar ceiling with a circular LED lamp in between, high enough to not burn my vision. I look to my side and see the familiar sight of a flight of stairs and the equipment of a hair salon. Where am I again? I need to retrace my steps. So last time I checked, I was with Sadie. Wait… Sadie's not here…
The thought jolts my energy up to a seventy. "Sadie?" I said in a panic.
"She's sleeping." I look to my left and see a girl with long curly hair and a grumpy face. Now I remember everything. We went to Sadie's friend for a makeover. "Upstairs."
"Hmm?"
"I said she's sleeping upstairs! Are you deaf?" Her eyebrows are never apart, like lovers holding hands. Her teeth are pressed hard together as well.
"Ooooohh…kay-"
"I brought you food." She points down at the transparent coffee table. "Hotdogs." and indeed they are. It's two hotdogs with rice and ketchup on the side of the plate. "That's the only food I can cook here. If you don't like it, don't complain." Then I hear her mutter, "You should be thankful Sadie made me cook you some."
Now she just sounds like a mean kidnapper with a lovely accomplice.
When I look back up, her head is already facing away from me. After a minute of silence, she turns to me, and I say. "Thank you." While smiling genuinely at her before I eat the food in front of me. I stab the hotdog with my fork and use the spoon to cut them into small pieces. Then. I dip it in the ketchup and put it in my mouth. After doing so, I did the same thing with the rice, minus stabbing it with a fork and scooping them with the spoon before consuming it. Mmmmm~ this taste so fucking good! I want to gobble down the whole plate, but it may look weird and disgusting, as taught to me, so I calm myself down and repeat the process. While I'm eating, I start thinking of Sadie. Sadie is sleeping. I remember that time we were still camping. I am so wide awake planning things. I wrote in my notebook about the whole escape plan: we must disguise ourselves so we won't get recognized, then using my secret credit card, I could pay us fares to wherever we could go, stay in hotels, travel to some places, have fun, write songs, and try to finish up the world Sadie is currently building. But most importantly: Get to know Sadie and befriend her. But how? I mean, we are close now, are we? Well, I still have a long way to go. I still don't really know who she is.
While thinking of other places we could go, my eyes suddenly land on Sadie, whose sleepy face is now facing me. Her hair is everywhere, her legs are tucked up on her stomach, and she is hugging her bag. Her lips are tugged upward. I can't believe someone with looks that could kill me sleeps smiling. Aaaand I find it cute. I don't know how long I was staring, but I wish I could just let her sleep, and I wish I never had to hold myself back together.
"What are you smiling at?"
I look up. Shit, I'm smiling?
"Umm…I was just thinking things."
"What are they?"
Why do you care? I thought of saying. But I don't want to ruin this for Sadie. "Well, just things your friend and I did-"
"What is it?" She abruptly stops me. What is wrong with this person? Why is she speaking to me like I owe her something?
"Did she…Tell you?"
Judging by her flustered face, she didn't. "Why do you care?!" She sounds more annoyed than before.
"I am just asking." I smiled at her. I don't know what it is, but something about my smile irritates her more which confuses me, but I also like it. It's wrong that she gets on my nerves, but it's also not right that she treats me this way.
"So," She clears her throat. "Tell me."
"Why should I?"
She chokes out a chuckle. "Because she's my friend, princess!"
Oh, not this. "Well, Sadie did not tell you about it, so why would you think I'll trust you-"
"You think you fucking know her?!" Georgia stomps close to the table, which catches me by surprise. I flinch and back for a bit, thinking she might slap me. I look at my almost finished meal--the last cut of a hotdog swimming in the ketchup. But I look back up at Georgia as she keeps talking. "You came in here, slept on my couch, ate my food, and you're going to talk back like that?! Look: just because you're a fucking pop star known by many doesn't mean you have to do anything you want, including putting Sadie in your shitty mess."
"How well do you even know Sadie? How come you do not know what happened? How did she not tell you? Are you even trustworthy?"
"She led you here. You are the untrustworthy one."
"She came with me."
"You forced her to it! I can see in her eyes."
"How can you say that?"
She bites her lips with her eyes still glaring at me. As she turns around and walks away, I feel confident in myself. But then I thought, Did Sadie ever think wrong about me and tell the girl?
"Wait, is there anything Sadie said about me?" What I said stopped her in her tracks, and she immediately turned to me.
"Why do you have to know?! So you could manipulate her?!"
"I am not that kind of person!" I stood up, our faces a few feet close. I did not hesitate to look her in the eyes. "I don't use my power over people. I don't use my social status or fame to get what I want."
"Well, it doesn't show! Because everyone is praising you now. "
"And how is that my fault? I do not choose the life I have. I did not choose to be praised, to be followed instantly, to be rich and famous-"
"Then you should notice just how fucking privileged you are with all your glitz and glam! It's not your fault, but you shouldn't have let it happen." What Georgia said shut me up. I'm at a loss for words, clueless about what to say about that. But she keeps talking. "Because of that, Sadie-"
"I did not force her!" I found my words again. I won't let Georgia lie about me. "I asked her many times-"
"You don't get it, Anya! She doesn't get easily comfortable with you!"
"What is your problem with me being with Sadie?!"
Georgia scoffs. "You really don't notice? Huh! How…self-centered are you?" She scoffed again, this time turning from me.
I am waiting for her to continue, but she doesn't. I walk far from the table and closer to Georgia. "What is it then?" No answer. I raise my voice, hoping to get her attention. "Tell me! Why do I need to stay away from her?!"
"Because she is a lesbian, Anya!" She finally turned to me, which made me almost stumble. "She's a lesbian, and she likes you! You're like her super gay awakening. She wants to marry you and told me she can only let you enter her heart. She wrote songs about you too! That's how in love she is! And you're probably disgusted by it!
"She is soooo in love with you that she doesn't even get to see that I am here. I am here ALL. HER FUCKING. LIFE! I am always showing her love, caring for her, and always there for her. Yet here she is, being fucking obsessed with you! You are never there for her, and I am here trying to show her that you aren't worth anything; that I exist but NO!
"And now that you're here? You will just make her life miserable. She will think you like her; she will think she has a chance WITH A FUCKING POP STAR. And you won't make her feel the same way I made her feel. With your mom wanting Sadie to go to jail and your hoard of minions letting out death threats on the streets, I am begging you: Stay. Away. From. Sadie. Let her go from your shitty escape plans. Because you are just nothing but trouble covered in pink and glitters."
Georgia huffs after talking. I can feel her stare down at me while I just look to my side.
What she said...I know that Sadie is not straight--her friends made that clear. But…Sadie likes me? No way. She looks like she hates me and will kill me, but she can't because of my status. Though I can't help but think of Sadie's crush on me. It makes me...smile; I hate having to hold it back--with my teeth on my tongue. But why do I like it? Do I even…Feel the same? Yes? No? Maybe. This is so confusing. Do I need a degree to get this? I did not even get to rebut that for someone who's been friends with Sadie for a year, she talks like she knew her since they were born.
But the silence was cut off by a voice from above.
"Hey, guys. What's the matter here?"
"Oh, it's just nothing." Georgia stares at me like she will murder me if I let out a sound or if I breathe, so I keep my mouth shut. "Did we keep you awake?"
"Well, I just woke up." Saide rubs her eye with her fist. Cute.
When I looked at Georgia, I wasn't aware I was smiling until her scrunched face reminded me how she could kill all the sunflowers surrounding her.
"I sleep fairly, though, so that is not a problem." She walks down the stairs, and as soon as she reaches the same floor we stand on, she asks, "Are you guys really sure that you two are okay here?"
Georgia and I are looking at each other and then back at Sadie. "Yeah." We said in unison.
"You two? Alone?"
"Yeah." We said again, more positively, hoping Sadie believed it. Her squinting eyes shifts back and forth between me and Georgia. Then she finally said, "Fine. Okay. Then, I am glad."
As Sadie's eyes avert to Georgia, I can feel myself smile while staring at her. But when her eyes meet mine, she suddenly looks away, biting her lip. My eyes widen, half wondering why did she react that way--is what Georgia said true?--and half thinking how she looks hot while doing so.
"Ahem." Georgia caught Sadies attention.
"Hmm? Oh yeah, right!" Sadie said. "Soooo," She claps her hands. "What's the idea at the moment?"
Georgia is about to open her mouth, but she stops. Instead, she folds her arms against her chest while looking at me and then at Sadie with a smug. "What if…You two tell me what happened and all your plans, then we'll talk."Download Novelah App
