“I hate you”, Ethan said as he pointed at his father with a trembling hands. “I hate that I do everything you ask me to do, and I hate that I’m living this kind of life”, Ethan said angrily and made his way out of the study. “Ethan!” Mr. Philip called as he stood to his feet and walked towards him. “Fix a wedding date, have your wife, and be the ideal heir according to the public. Your brother would be coming to live with you soon, and you don’t want him to trample on you”, He dropped, while Ethan clenched his fists and walked out of the study. He got to his room and let out a loud scream, after which he fell to the ground and broke into silent sobs. With rage burning in him, he stood up and shattered the flower vase that laid on his desk, ignoring the voices of some servants who were knocking on his door. He felt totally broken and devastated that for a minute, he wished he never existed. At the end of the day, he realized that again, he needed to do as his father had said. He had come a long way; it would strike his heart if his position suddenly gets snatched away from his hands. Still with his body trembling, he made his way out of the house and into his car. With no idea of a particular destination, he drove into the street and to the road. He finally made his way to Carissa’s apartment and without a smile on his face, he walked into the living room. “Ethan my dear!” Mrs. Williams said in elation as she pulled him into a warm hug. “Can I see Carissa?” He asked and without waiting to get a response, he walked up the stairs and directly towards Carissa’s bedroom. Carissa laid on her bed, still glaring at the card her mother had earlier given to her. It was an invitation to a couple fun fair which was scheduled to take place by weekend. “I did a lot to get you this because I want you to go out and get some nice and fresh air. Don’t disappoint me by throwing it into the trash”, her mother had said firmly after handing the card over to her. Carissa chuckled slightly as she thought of how great the event would be. However, something seemed to be off because the only person she could think of attending such an event with was Stan. A deep sigh escaped her lips as she swallowed hard and shifted her eyes to the window, as though she would catch a glimpse of Stan. Just then, she heard the door knob turning and immediately, she jerked up to her feet. “Ethan?” She called out in shock while he collapsed into her arms. “It’s okay”, Carissa said, a little frightened, especially because she realized that he was sobbing. “What’s going on?” She asked, with her heart beating out of her chest. “Let’s fix a new date in the next two weeks”, Ethan dropped, while Carissa froze on the spot. *** “I just need to take a walk. I would be back before you know it”, Stan said to Kiara, who was clinging to him like a child. “I decided to come spend the night with you. I planned that we would watch a movie, have a chat, and you know, share some moments together”, Kiara said as she held Stan, giving him her puppy eyes that did well in getting him irritated. “Just a walk, Kiara!” Stan said defiantly, trying so hard to avoid getting her pissed. The last time he had gotten her angry, she had reported to her father, and that caused him to get some deduction from his salary. Not only that, he had also been threatened by Mr. White, with a clear and detailed explanation of how he would deal with him if he gets her angry again. “How many minutes would it take you?” Kiara asked as she peered piercingly into his eyes. “Maybe an hour”, he said and smiled pretentiously. His heart ached each moment he did something out of pretence. With every day that passed, he was beginning to discover that he wanted things to be real with his heart. He wanted to be in a sincere love with someone. And also, he craved to give his sincere smile to that one person he loved. However, that seemed to be out of his reach, as it was clear that he was stuck in pretence at the moment. “Alright, I would be waiting for you”, Kiara said as she pulled him into a hug and placed a quick kiss on his lips. Stan took in the air the moment he stepped out of the apartment. He had felt like he was suffocating in there, and it was great that he was going for a walk. He had lied to Kiara because he wasn’t really taking a walk like he had said, he was heading to visit Carissa. Stan got to Carissa’s home and, as usual, climbed the roof and made to peek into the window. He heard some voices, one of which he concluded was that of Carissa. *** “Why?” Carissa asked Ethan, with a bewildered look on her face. “Is everything okay?” Carissa asked again as she lifted his head and peered into his eyes. “I’m okay, I mean, I would be okay. But then, we need to get done with our wedding”, Ethan said as Carissa’s heart beat accelerated. Stan froze where he laid, with his heart beating out of his chest and his hands clenched. He gulped down hard and wished that he could head into the room and throw a quick punch at Ethan. However, he needed no one to tell him that what he wished for wasn’t going to happen. “Relax, Talk to me, what is going on?” Carissa asked Ethan again. “Why the hell are you incessant on knowing what’s wrong? I already mentioned to you that it’s nothing and I just want to go get married already!” Ethan flared up, causing Carissa to shiver slightly. Stan scrunched his brows as he tried to understand if he just heard Ethan raising his voice at Carissa.
