Chapter 115

Everybody had held before now Professor Uka high, because of his academic achievement, but his poor performance was as poor as poor man taking to altar for marriage that could fail his people at any opportunity. The tricks and personal achievement over these years to fix his man in that position where he would milk the nation and more crashing down on the failure of the election Uka conducted was a notable achievement.  A clear reason that corruption soon would rear its ugly head again.
So, after all these years of homily of serving and protecting the right and mandate of good citizens, the whole country had been awash with stories which increasingly made them insecure and uncomfortable.
Uka had failed in his first attempt and all hope on him had died down a natural death. The many fine gestures and remarks at his appointment day created an expression by many who had longed hoped for it. He had been described as a clown who should shamefully cover his face and at least hung up his stolen chains of academic certificates from both aviation and radiography schools.
That was all Mr. Presidents wanted. Soon the constitution would strip him of his tenure and immunity from prosecution. He had the country’s number one on hand. He was bad, very bad, popularly bad everywhere. He was always planning and scheming. As cases had been filed against him by individuals and corporate organizations, he knew they were too many a legion to dodge and the only option, he would be comfortable with was to take new president on oath in the highest order, which took place as he planned it. And he would forcefully take a bow and live the lodge for his new presumed pageboys to come in. That was after all the system that had long stayed which the constitution opposed.

After the election, curriculum vitae was already flying everywhere. Political hawkers, expired and aspiring godfathers were seen milling around the government pavement, corridors and runways for appointments and contracts. Critically they had been seen as people who could not add value to the system and had outgrown their usefulness, if truth were to be told. Their presence in the administration and policy implementation still contributed to the non-departure from the old order. They could not easily be eased out when they knew the details, but to do that worth good result. It required continuous fight for what was due for the right person and at the end easing them out with minimum pain of hanging around with fresh minds.
In few days' time, Mr. President would exchange baton with the new man. He has accumulated wealth more than he could care for or be handled in the banks, companies, the states, and shares and around the globe. He had managed changing names with traditional and English and non-existing names-increasing the number with others he was not known with. He had one out of the twelfth digits of profits, real tax and VATS made by the citizens into his purse.
In his years in the service, many new faces emerged. They were political paupers and hawkers whom he turned into big heads overnight. Many were unemployed college leavers who majored in psychology, medicine, law and political science, who would soon flaunt their arrogance and affluence because of their new begotten power. They drained the country dry, groaned for body weight and had grown fat necked, untouched and even unseen in the process.
They sirened as they passed with no reason to believe that they were the real people conveyed among the long row of bleating vehicles. These young political wannabes obviously had stepped on toes of the old flames of the party and their master’s pageboys to retain new positions.
Mr. President had recommended the setting up of unopposed committees which mainly were from the ruling party - whose duty were to walk round the clock to ensure smooth handover of power and they were active in the assignment. Because of the intent and limited time space, they had no time to think well as how to direct certain things that falls on the work given them. The appointees had done the work of drafting and organizing them to do as he instructed without question.
Their affairs had turned into answering calls and jotting down street names and numbers and the leading banks and companies in the stock market. Few with good minds were busy drafting the job given them, hoping though for a handsome reward. In a roll call they could not wait to see another visitor coming in with gifts of cars or check books to ask for favors of contract as their offices had been turned into a pilgrimage, all to seal to rock inadequacies of the election and to be sworn in as soon as possible before a pronouncement would be made against them.
