Chapter 23

It's been three days! Three whole days since Steva and Stella had been in a coma.
They both happened to be in a critical condition.
As Steva was asthmatic, her already weak lungs were affected by the smoke she inhaled Making her condition worse.
She had been on the bed unmoving for three days now.
But the doctor's assured them that she'll be fine and might wake up soon.
Stella on the other hand was in a more critical state.
Due to the impact of the hit.
Blood managed to seep into her brain and her brain had been damaged a little.
The doctors are still unsure of when she will wake up or if she will ever wake up.
They even said that it was a miracle that she was still alive.
Though I am alright now I haven't been able to find the courage to leave the hospital yet.
As I had been very worried about the two of them.
I also had a hard time sleeping because each time I close my eyes to sleep the scene keeps playing in my vision scaring the hell out of me.
I was now in Stella's room, sitting in front of her bed.
The room was dead silent with the beeping sound of the life support machine as the only source of sound
Stella was lying there, lifeless.
She had an oxygen mask on her nose.
An IV drip was connected to the back of her palms.
Her head was embedded with large bandages.
Holding her hands, I realized that it was very cold and lifeless.
" Please wake up soon, Stella! Please! " I said as tears streamed down my eyes.
I could still remember the relief I saw in her eyes after she had saved Steva.
I wished I hadn't been rooted to the spot and was able to drag her away from there before the brick fell then this wouldn't have happened.
" I am very sorry, Stella. I wasn't able to protect you just in time. Please wake up! " I sobbed as I held into her cold hands.
It's been three whole days and she remained unmoving.
" Jack, you need to rest. Stella would wake up soon. " I heard Mrs. Ellison Stella's mom's voice.
I looked up at her and saw her eyes red with unshed tears.
I realized that she was trying to console herself more than she is trying to console me.
If I was feeling this much amount of pain and grieve. I wonder how much more she who gave birth to Stella must be feeling.
I gently dropped Stella's hand which I was holding before standing up and walking towards Stella's Mom.
I embraced her as soon as I got to her and she soon burst into tears.
I tried my best to console her holding back my own tears but I failed as I also began to sob.
We stayed like that for minutes till a doctor came in and politely asked us to move out as he wanted to do a check-up on Stella.
I held Mrs. Ellison's hands in mine as we slowly walked out of the hospital room into the reception.
There, I saw my mom and Dad sitting beside Stella's dad.
My Dad was trying his best to console him as he looked so sad and his eyes were also red.
Immediately they saw us.
They stood up and walked towards us.
Mr. Ellison immediately embraced his wife when he got to us and My mom also embraced me too in a comforting manner.
" Everything is gonna be alright. Stella will wake up soon so don't worry. " She comforted me.
I just nodded.
I just hoped her words will come true because...
Everything is unsure.

The next time I woke up.
It was already dark outside.
I looked around and saw that Nurse Victoria was dozing off already.
But as if sensing me, she opened her eyes groggily and looked at me.
" You are awake. " She said.
I nodded.
" Let me call the doctors. " She said as she immediately disappeared and soon reappeared with the doctors from earlier.
There was also a nurse with them.
The doctors then did a second round of checks up on me and after confirmed that I was alright.
They removed the oxygen mask.
Finally! I could now breathe freely. I exclaimed inwardly.
" Can you talk? " One of the doctors asked me, staring intensely at me.
" Yeah. " I nodded, saying hoarsely.
" Would you like some water? " He asked.
" Yes. " I replied, my throat was still hurting a little.
" Get her some water. " The doctor instructed nurse Victoria and the latter quickly did as she was told.
She helped me up and handed the glass of water to me and I drank.
When I finished the glass.
I felt refreshed.
" Should we call your parents in, now? " The doctor asked me.
" Yes. " I replied with a nod.
" Okay. " He left the room followed by the other doctors.
Now I was left with Nurse Victoria and the other nurse.
" Umm... Miss my shift just ended and I have to go now. Sera here will take care of your needs in the meantime. " Victoria said.
" Okay. " I replied with a smile.
" Alright, thanks for understanding. " She said and soon left the room.
" Miss, I am Sera Winfrey a junior nurse. " She introduced.
" Okay, Nice to meet you. " I replied.
Soon, we were in eerie silence not knowing what to say.
The door opened and I saw my mom and dad walking into the room.
The nurse left immediately after they entered.
They both looked haggard and seemed to have grown a lot older this past few days.
" Mom, Dad. " I called out.
" Oh, baby! I am so glad to know that you are finally Awake. " She said holding my hands in hers.
I Smiled.
" We were so worried about you. " My dad added with a relieved smile.
" Am sorry for making you worry so much. I am fine now. " I said.
" Yes, you are. " Mom said.
Then I remembered.
" Mom, what about Stella? " I asked her.
I could see the Surprise on their faces hearing this from me.
" Well, Stella... " My mom trailed off.
" What happened to Stella! " I asked alarmingly.
" She's in a coma. " My Dad answered.
" What! How! " I asked confusedly.
" Well, She..... " My Dad explained in detail everything that happened.
" No! How can it be! This is all my fault! I wished I never went to the studio and.... "
" Don't blame yourself for this, Steva. It's not your fault. " My mom tried consoling me.
" I want to see her, Mom. " I said all of a sudden.
" No, you can't.... "
" Please, mom. " I pleaded and they finally relented.
