Mr. President's Wife Chapter 25

"I'm sorry I didn't notice you were already here in the living room. I was just about to get some coffee from the kitchen," Jayson said after he saw Eloisa peeking from the kitchen.
Their eyes met and they exchanged glances. Eloisa couldn't move while standing outside the kitchen. She stepped back a bit when she felt the coffee almost spilling from the cup she was holding, nearly spilling onto her toes. She also felt the warmth on her fingers from the drops of coffee that had splattered onto her hand.
"That's okay, Eloisa and I were going to have coffee too, that's why we came down here. I'll go home later when the sun rises; I want to stay with Eloisa first. You were really drunk earlier. Just how much did you drink?" Nica asked.
"Just a little, I guess I'm just tired, so the alcohol hit me hard, and I got drunk quickly," Jayson replied.
"That's why; it's a shame this was supposed to be your first night as a married couple, but look at what happened between you two. I hope you can resolve your issues with Eloisa." Eloisa would have covered Nica's mouth to stop her chattering if Nica hadn’t stopped herself.
Eloisa felt a bit uneasy about what Nica was saying. She completely stepped out of the kitchen to make way for Jayson to enter and get coffee.
"Go ahead and get your coffee from the kitchen," Nica said. She added to Jayson, "Your wife just stepped out; you can go in now."
Nica knew there was a strong need for something to happen between Jayson and Eloisa. She hoped that one day clarity would come between the newlyweds and that they would reconcile in time.
Jayson walked into the kitchen. He tried to stay calm knowing it was wrong to leave the house and get drunk. He didn't want the fight between him and Eloisa.
He hoped that one day Eloisa would accept that she was married to him.
Jayson's time in the kitchen was short. He really just made coffee and quickly left the kitchen. "Did you make coffee already?"
"Yes, I'm going back to my room," he said to Nica.
He didn't pay attention to Eloisa. He knew she was avoiding him because she couldn't look him in the eye if he tried to talk to her. He knew she wouldn’t be able to answer him calmly, less than fifty percent of the time, without being angry or responding poorly.
That fight they had last night was enough for him. "Okay, I’m going up now," he told Nica, not to his wife, Eloisa.
Silence fell between the two friends. But just a moment later, Nica broke the silence. "Did you see him? He really seems to like you. I can see it in the way he looks at you."
“Stop it, Nica. You've been talking too much; I wanted to tape your mouth shut because of your incessant chattering." That was a threat from Eloisa. "What time are you going home?"
“Are you sending me home? After you made me come here." Nica showed a hint of hurt for feeling like Eloisa was pushing her away.
"Don't tell me there's really no spark between you two?"
"Are you kidding me! How many times do I have to say there isn't!" Even though there was. Eloisa lied.
It was noon, and Eloisa was having lunch alone. She planned to go out and head to her father’s company. But she really felt lazy to go out because of the heat and the bright sun.
She was just wandering around the house, doing nothing. Jayson left early to visit his businesses. He would inform her every time he left about where he was going or what he would do for the day. However, Eloisa didn’t pay attention to it. She pretended to listen but showed no interest in what Jayson was doing.
It was getting boring! She said, suddenly standing up. She was watching movies. She had already played several movies, but her boredom wouldn't go away.
Her father had told her to take a vacation while their honeymoon was ongoing. He also said she should give herself and her husband some time.
Her father insisted that she should focus on Jayson and take good care of him because her father saw that Jayson was a good man and someone worth protecting. That's why he chose for her to marry that man.
But all of that contradicted her perception of Jayson. However, on the other hand, she occasionally found herself glancing at him when they happened to eat together.
She finally stood up and headed to her room to change clothes. She chose a simple dress that she made sure looked beautiful on her when fitted.
Everything she wore suited her. She had a lovely figure and, of course, she was beautiful—far more beautiful than her cousin, who was now standing in front of her. "Ohhhh, who knew you actually had plans to come here after suddenly getting married. I thought you were on leave from your job here. That's what Tito said."
"Why would I need to take leave from my job? There's no need to put my work on hold just because I got married. It's my responsibility, and I should finish what I started, not shift it to someone else," Eloisa replied, with a disdainful look at her cousin.
This was just one of her many cousins she didn’t get along with. But Carlota stood out for having a terrible attitude that was worse than the others.
She was insecure about everything compared to Eloisa, not just in looks. Even regarding their father's attention, she was envious of how he cared for Eloisa. "Honestly, even if you didn't come here to work, it wouldn’t matter because your big catch, your wealthy husband, is right here."
Eloisa shot Carlota a dirty look at her statement, which she did not like. “Why are you looking at me like that? I'm right, aren't I? That's why Tito married you off to him so quickly because he's rich," Carlota insulted. "Don't deny it; you also want that. You probably planned to latch onto him and used your body to ensure you got him and fell into the trap you set for him."
Eloisa tried to hold herself back, but she wanted to slap Carlota; it was getting harder to restrain herself. "Do you want me to slap you again?" she said, almost challenging.
She had already slapped Carlota once, and at that moment, she felt she might do it again if Carlota didn't stop her sharp-tongued remarks. "Go ahead!" Carlota really was challenging Eloisa, but she chose to just ignore her.
Eloisa walked away to avoid Carlota. But Carlota quickly caught up with her. Just before she could reach Eloisa, Eloisa's father suddenly appeared. This was what stopped Carlota from starting any trouble.
