Chapter 40 A Witch did better

Rica's POV
I spinned the revolving chair I was sitting on. It twirled me 360 degree round a single spot with a big unending smile on my face as it continued to twirl me. Then I immediately stopped it.
I looked towards a mirror and I could see my face...ageing. My end was near. Any normal witch would worry about it and begin to search for longer days but not me. I didn't care. I didn't care if I died today because my mission was complete.
Almost complete. I had a last thing to do before I could tag my mission as 'completed'. I stood up from the chair and looked around me. I was in a destroyed uncompleted building that was located in the outskirts of Olia.
Everywhere was dark but my crystal ball gave out bright blue light that brightened everywhere. The doors of the building were old and rotten, and they dangled from their hinges like they were only attached to it by a bare string.
The floors of the building were covered with rusted nails and bolts, dead leaves, infested planks of wood and decayed things that had turned to dust. Rain was dropping from the sky and the place smelt of wet wood and concrete.
There were no windows but squared holes at points were windows were meant to be, which provided ventilation to the building. It was a one storey building and I was on the top floor.
The only thing tangible was a broken mirror that you could barely see your reflection in. I was waiting for someone. He had an attribute of punctuality because he was a perfect figure and I knew he'd be there on the dot of time.
Not earlier, not sooner. Counting the time with my own mind, nine pm clocked.
A loud thump from above landed on the building like an asteroid was hitting earth. Great white light dimmed as the owner walked up to me.
My smile faded away because all I wanted to do was kill him. He failed to seperate Alexa and Elliot but I did the job myself. I hated the very sight of him but he was useful to me. I needed him for the last phase of my mission.
"Early as expected, Liam."
He kept quiet, looking at me closely before saying anything. "You summoned me. Why?"
He had no expression on his face and at that time, his light had dimmed and he only gave a reflection of the blue light from my crystal ball.
"What an angel couldn't do..." I paused and circled him. "...a witch did better."
His eyes followed mine as I walked around him in a circle. "Your services are not needed. We will get Alexa. We do not need your help."
"I am not doing this for you but for myself."
"A witch only does what benefits her. What is your gain?"
I stopped and sat back on my revolving chair, tapping my fingers on the handles. "He will feel pain. He will hate himself. He will feel how I felt when he killed my family, and it will haunt him for the rest of his life."
He stayed in that spot, not moving for a second. "What do you gain?" he asked again, not understanding what my gain was.
"I gain revenge."
He did not understand what I would gain from another person's pain but he asked no further questions regarding that.
"What have you done?"
"Not too much but it's enough. I have seperated Elliot and Alexa forever."
He smiled, in a pitiful way. "Love..."
I stood up angrily. "To hell with love! They are never reuniting again and I'm sure about that."
"What makes you sure?" he enquired, keeping the pitiful smile on.
I walked towards a wall and rested on it. I had to tell Liam what I had done so he could fit perfectly into my plan.
"You're an angel, you should know everything that's happening on earth."
"Only the Lord is omnipresence and omniscience. I was never informed."
I decided on no more twists and gave him a direct answer. "I killed Kimberly and framed Elliot for it. Lexa believes he did it. She has no clue."
He didn't look surprised that someone's death was involved, and anyway he had seen her in heaven. "What makes you certain?"
Questions and questions, angels we're always curious being. "She has taken me as a godmother. She asked me to make a covering potion against Elliot. She freed me from the mental asylum and wants both of us to go to France. Do you need more proof?"
Liam walked up to me, maintaining a good distance. "The devil will find her. You can't stop him."
I nodded my head, agreeing with him. "True, but that's why I visited a good friend of his."
"The devil has no friends."
"Words can't make you understand, I'll show you instead."
I walked to my crystal ball and whirled my fingers around it, making incantations that the ears could never hear and the brain could never understand. I turned it towards the wall I once rested on and projected a wave so even the blind could see it.
***
He appeared, wearing a black cloak like that of a vampire. His black trousers covered every part of his pale white legs. His black hair was jelled to the front. He looked just like a vampire.
His eyes scanned the room, he was looking for his master. The one whom he thought had called him. When he saw no one, he attempted to leave until I emerged from the background.
He turned to me, a feeling of sudden hate rising in his blood. Witches and demons never got along, especially after what their king did to the covens.
He understood what was happening and what I had done. "You must be a fool to summon me here in the name of my sire. I will destroy you this instant!" Andras leaped at me but I swiftly threw red pixie dust at him, causing him to freeze and remain in the spot...motionless. He didn't look very happy about it. "Let go of me! You will regret the day you did this!"
"Who will go after me, is it your sire?" I laughed as he looked at me confused, unable to comprehend the reason for my laughter. "Your sire is weak in love. He has lost focus and he shouldn't even be a king anymore."
My words made him angry. He struggled to free himself from the rare pixie dust's effect but it was futile. Red pixie dust could only be found in hell, and since no one including witches could go to hell and return alive, it was almost impossible for anyone to get their hands on it.
"If you speak about my king like that again, I'll.."
"Look at you. You're so powerful, so focused, so diligent, so...perfect. The demons would have been better off with a king like you."
He paused, as if what I had said was a sedative. "The king is fit to rule."
I shook my head sadly. "When last has he visited his kingdom. He doesn't know anything that's happening in the kingdom unless you update him. And isn't he a human-made demon king? A true demon should be the heir!"
Demons were foolish and easy to convince. I knew it was just a matter of time before he would fall for my trap.
He looked convinced but he was still looking for reasons not to believe. "Witches are deceivers. Why should I believe you?"
"And so are demons. I'm just a friend who has seen what you demons can't see. A true demon will never choose a human, thoughtless of an angel as a mate. He stayed away from his kingdom for 547 years, waiting for an angel? And he put you as an assistant when you deserve the crown."
The demon became quiet, thinking about what a witch had told him. "I will not betray my sire."
I sighed and positioned my eyes so they would be directed at his, and he returned the gesture. "Will you accept an angel as a queen? You have a greater advantage over him. You have harnessed power from hell. You know more than he can ever know. While you have been training, he's been sulking on his couch drinking gin. If you call for a challenge, you will win. Just imagine all you will have. The throne will rightfully be yours." I paused before adding to my motivational speech. Think about it."
I poured white water over him and the effect of the pixie dust was washed away. He shook himself free, and moved closer to me. Releasing his sharp claws.
He gave me a warning stare. "A witch cannot be trusted." He eyed me from head to toe, noticing my degree and level of power. "But a friend can."
With that, he hit his left leg on the floor and vanished. While I remained, laughing at how smoothly my plan was going.
***
"Have you seen?" I asked, looking at Liam's unemotional face.
"Distraction?"
"Exactly!" For an angel, he was catching up with my evil plans quite quickly. "If he wins, he will get further distracted with his duties as a king. He will never want to put a deputy in his place. If he loses, his devil powers will also be gone. And it will be harder for him to find Alexa."
He turned to me, with a slightly raised brow. "Alexandra will not stop loving him. What can you do to that?"
"Also true. But the Alexa I know will rather go with someone she trusts than someone she loves."
He raised his two brows this time. "Meaning?"
I looked at him, giving him the signal. "She trusts you."
He shook his head. "She doesn't. I tried to take her away."
"But you let her go on your own, didn't you?"
"What do you want from me?"
I bit my lip, Liam was smarter than I thought. "Make Alexa yours."
He turned his back on me. Feeling defeated already. "She can never be mine."
"You want her to be yours?" I asked excitedly. I was certain that he had feelings for her. "You can talk to me," I said, moving closer to him.
"An angel cannot love an angel."
"That's also true but what about...a demon?" I said, biting my lip.
He turned to me like I had said a forbidden word or made a taboo. He looked like he wanted to kill me but he turned away again, walking farther from me.
"I must leave."
"We have a common enemy and a common friend. Sometimes to get what you want, you have to go under."
"But when it's asking for too much..." He turned, locking eyes with me. "...It becomes evil."
"I know you will think it through, Liam. You cannot be a servant all your life. Didn't He give everyone the power of choice?"
He turned away for the last time and exposed his wings. The bright light came back and in less than a second, he jumped to the sky and was out of sight.
I sat happily on the revolving chair I had sat on previously and whirled it continuously because I knew that my mission was as good as completed.
I couldn't wait to see how broken Elliot would be. He would be shattered and his pain was my happiness.
I stood up from the chair and made a chant, closing my palms against each other. When I finished, a black portal appeared. As I walked closer to it, the environment got colder than it was before. It was just its effect.
I had to return home to my bed. The next day was our flight and I needed a good night's sleep. I had a big day and I wanted to live every second of it energized.
I stepped into the portal. Both the portal, my crystal ball and I vaporized into steam and were out of sight. Seconds later, it was as if no one had even been there that night.
