Chapter 20 OPPORTUNITIES FOR PROMOTION 2

Mature Content Warning: 18+
But after all, this place was a deserted wilderness. Finding a place to stand and make love was hard enough, let alone a spot to lie down. Fortunately, Điền Ngạc Như was experienced—she deftly avoided Đinh Nhị Cẩu, who was gradually closing the distance, turned back to glance at him, and slowly walked toward the upright motorbike. Just as Đinh Nhị Cẩu stood frozen, not understanding what she was doing, Điền Ngạc Như calmly pulled down both her pants and underwear. Placing both hands on the seat of the motorbike, she bent over, exposing a round, bare, smooth white butt under the open sky.
The breeze continued to blow gently. Điền Ngạc Như felt a cool current brush over her rear, but after waiting a while, there was still no sign of Đinh Nhị Cẩu approaching. Annoyed, she turned back—and there he was, eyes fixed on her exposed bottom, dazed. His gaze was filled with lust, and saliva was practically dripping from the corners of his mouth.
"What are you staring at?" Điền Ngạc Như asked shyly.
"Ah... nothing." Đinh Trường Sinh snapped out of it, finally realizing what was about to happen. He quickly undid his pants—and their wild outdoor rendezvous began…
An hour later, Điền Ngạc Như turned to him and said:
"Come home with me tonight. I want you to meet my sister."
"Your sister? Which one?"
"Today’s my mother’s birthday. She’s turning sixty. Our father passed away early, so my sister and I want to throw her a small celebration."
"Isn’t your eldest sister coming?"
"She’s busy with a project. No idea if it's work or just some personal trip."
"But if I come along, won’t people misunderstand? I feel like it’s not appropriate."
"It’s fine. I’ll say Hoắc Lữ Mậu sent you to escort me home."
"Uh… then where am I sleeping tonight?"
"At my house, of course."
"Huh? If the station chief finds out, we’re in big trouble!"
"How would he know? It’s already dark. You can leave early tomorrow morning. I’ll go to work a bit late."
"I still don’t think it’s a good idea. How about this: I’ll take you home and then head back myself."
"Don’t want to meet my sister? It could benefit you later."
"Ahem... Let’s do that later. There’ll be other chances. Maybe I’ll visit her another day."
"Alright then. Let’s go. It’s getting late."
They tidied up their clothes. The earlier wild session left Điền Ngạc Như reluctant to part from the young man, but she knew this was risky business—so she held herself back.
Just as they were about to leave, Điền Ngạc Như staggered slightly and almost fell forward.
"I'm fine, just… because of you. You were pounding from all directions earlier. You nearly drilled through me. That thing of yours is so big..." she murmured shyly.
"If you’re tired, I’ll drive you home," Đinh Nhị Cẩu offered. Her words were giving him a headache—he could see she was walking strangely.
"No need. It’s too dark, and the mountain trail’s hard to navigate. By the way, Nhị Cẩu—is that nickname of yours because of that thing?"
"Haha, you got it. Back in my village, Bàng Dục, someone once joked that my 'treasure' was as big as two full-grown hunting dogs. That’s how I got the nickname Đinh Nhị Cẩu. We even got into a fight over it!"
They slowly made their way down the mountain. Đinh Trường Sinh drove Điền Ngạc Như to Điền Village. By then, every house had its lights on.
"Hey, Ngạc Như, why are you only back now? Mom’s asked about you a few times already. And who’s this?" Điền Thanh Như said, eyeing Đinh Trường Sinh who was pushing his bike behind them.
"Sis, I’m not like you with your fancy car. All I have is this rickety electric scooter. Work dragged on, and it was already dark by the time I finished. Boss Hoắc didn’t feel safe, so he sent Tiểu Đinh to take me home."
"What about that guy? It’s Mom’s sixtieth, and he can’t even be bothered to show up?" Điền Thanh Như said, clearly annoyed.
"You know what he’s like. If he showed up, Mom would just get angrier."
"Fair enough… Hey, Tiểu Đinh, bring the bike inside." Điền Thanh Như turned and pulled her sister into the house, leaving Đinh Trường Sinh to lift the bike over the step along with a gift bag.
In the courtyard, the birthday atmosphere was warm. A table was set with dishes, a modest cake sat in the middle, and a small bottle of wine beside it. Their mother, old Madam Điền, sat silently on a wooden chair, gazing out the door as if waiting for someone.
"Spill it—who exactly is he? And you smell weird… kind of like…" Điền Thanh Như sniffed and frowned, but before she could finish, Điền Ngạc Như clamped a hand over her mouth.
"Shhh! Keep your voice down! What are you, a sniffer dog? That nose of yours is too sharp!"
"You and him really…?" Thanh Như asked, half-suspicious. "And Hoắc Lữ Mậu still let him bring you home?"
"Mind your own business. Where’s Mom? You finished cooking?"
"Yep. Just waiting on you. Go inside—I’ll check on the kid."
"Kid?"
"The one you brought home, duh. I didn’t get a good look earlier. Gotta inspect him properly."
"Sis! I’m warning you—he’s timid. Don’t scare him."
Hearing that, Ngạc Như felt a subtle warmth. Her second sister had always been the one she felt closest to. On the way home, she had been wondering how to ask for her sister’s help with Đinh Trường Sinh—but now, just from her sister's "dog nose," she already sensed something. Still… do I really smell? Ngạc Như sneakily raised her arm to sniff. Nothing out of the ordinary!
Just as Đinh Trường Sinh was setting down the bike…
"Not bad. Seems like you’re even stronger than Hoắc Lữ Mậu. Hey kid, how old are you?" Điền Thanh Như suddenly asked, making him jump.
"Whoa, you scared me! Hello, Sister Điền. I’m Đinh Trường Sinh. People call me Đinh Nhị Cẩu. I’m eighteen."
"Haha, funny name. You second-born in your family or something?"
"Not exactly… it's a long story. Sister Điền, could you please tell the other Sister Điền I’m heading home? I’ve made sure she got here safely."
"What? No way! If you leave without her consent, I’ll be in trouble. Haha."
"Please… just let her know, okay?"
"You really want to go?"
Thanh Như watched him walk off and frowned. Tonight was their mother’s birthday, and it didn’t feel right to have an outsider there. Even though their mother disliked Hoắc Lữ Mậu, if she found out Ngạc Như brought a man home, she might get even angrier.
"Alright, goodbye, Tiểu Đinh."
As his figure disappeared into the night, Điền Thanh Như was struck with a strange feeling—perhaps from Điền Ngạc Như, or maybe from that young man. But she couldn’t pinpoint why.
"Tiểu Đinh’s gone," she said, sitting beside her sister.
"Gone? I thought he was staying for dinner?"
"Wasn’t my doing. He chose to leave. Smart boy, knows how to read the room. Now tell me—what’s his story? Sleep with me tonight. We’ll have a proper sister talk."
"What are you two whispering about?" Their mother’s voice suddenly rang out.
Each person carries a scale in their heart—sometimes used to judge others, sometimes to measure themselves.
Hearing what Điền Ngạc Như said made Thanh Như think about her own life. Wasn’t she, too, living like a “widow with a husband”? A marriage in name only. A month without seeing each other was common. Over the years, the distance had worn down their passion—and their love.
She worked in the prosecutor’s office. Her job demanded confidentiality. Long weeks away from home were normal. Her husband worked in the city’s Discipline Inspection Commission, dealing with serious violations. His work was also highly classified. Between the two of them, real time together was rare.
“So you just indulge yourself like this?” Thanh Như asked, blushing. When Ngạc Như explained how Đinh Trường Sinh got his name, she felt a strange flutter. She knew it was because she’d been lonely too long. But she couldn’t admit that—not even to her sister. Pride kept her silent.
"Come on, Sis. You call this indulgence? I’m just chasing my own happiness."
"But he’s so young. You’re twelve years older than him."
"So what? Older women and younger men are trendy now. As long as it’s mutual, age doesn’t matter."
"Aren’t you afraid his family will come after you? Call you a seductress?"
"He has no family. He’s on his own. Sister, if you get the chance, help him out. He’s just a temporary staffer right now. Can you get him a proper spot in the police force?"
"Don’t count on me. That’s not easy. Maybe I can help get him a post in another department—but not the police."
"Anything is fine, as long as he knows that I’m the only one who can help him. I want him loyal to me, forever in my debt."
"Hey now! I’m the one helping him, not you!" Thanh Như shot back.
"Oh? Could it be... you’re into him too? That’d be great! He’d be thrilled. Sis, I’m generous—I don’t mind sharing a man. Want me to play matchmaker?"
"You shameless brat! I’m going to wring your neck!" Thanh Như lunged at her, and the two sisters wrestled on the bed, laughing.
"Haha! Sis—stop! If you want, I’ll let you inspect the goods first…" Ngạc Như giggled breathlessly.
