Special Chapter #1

The ancient tree, a silent witness to Althea's solitary struggle, now overlooked a gathering of five. Althea stood amongst them, no longer a lone figure wrestling with destiny, but a warrior-in-the-making amongst potential allies.
There was Zaria, her movements fluid and graceful, eyes that held both ancient wisdom and a spark of playful mischief. Orion, a towering figure with a quiet strength, his gaze steady and reassuring. Alric, whose quick wit was matched only by the keen intelligence in his eyes, and Sebastian, whose youthful exuberance brought a much-needed levity to the solemn setting. They had arrived almost as if summoned by the echoes of Althea's desperate questions, drawn by the same subtle currents of fate that bound them all.
"So, Althea," Alric began, breaking a comfortable silence that had settled over them as they shared dried fruit and spring water. He leaned against the rough bark of the giant tree, his expression thoughtful.
"Being the next warrior, the one chosen by Goddess Solara... what's your plan? Where do you begin?"
Althea looked at him, then at the others. A sigh escaped her, not of despair, but of genuine uncertainty.
"I wish I knew, Alric. I truly don't know what to do, or where to start. Solara's prophecy was... cryptic. 'New life from death,' she said. But what does that even mean for a warrior? Am I meant to fight, to protect, to rebuild? I just feel this immense pressure, this weight of expectation, and no clear path."
Zaria, ever perceptive
offered a gentle smile.
"Perhaps the path isn't meant to be clear at first, Althea. Sometimes, the journey defines the destination. And you're not alone in this."
Orion nodded
his deep voice resonating softly.
"Our strength lies in unity. We are all here for a reason, drawn by the same winds of change. Whatever your mission is, it feels... connected to all of us."
Sebastian, who had been playfully trying to balance a small pebble on a larger one, piped up.
"Yeah! Maybe it's like a puzzle, right? And we each have a piece! Like, you've got the super important warrior piece, and maybe I have the... well, the 'good at finding shiny things' piece!" He grinned, and a ripple of soft laughter passed through the group.
Althea found herself smiling, a genuine smile that reached her eyes, a sensation she hadn't felt in a long time.
"A puzzle," she mused.
"Perhaps. But a puzzle with incredibly high stakes." Her gaze lingered on each of them.
"I've carried this burden alone for so long. To have you all here... it changes things."
"It lightens the load,"
Alric affirmed pushing off the tree.
"And perhaps 'new life from death' isn't just about a grand, sweeping mission, but about the life we build right here, together. Out of the ashes of what you've lost." He looked around at the group, a spark of adventure in his eyes.
"So, no grand plan yet. That's fine. How about we start with something simpler? How about we figure out where we can get a decent meal around here? My stomach has a very clear 'plan' right now."
Another round of laughter, louder this time, filled the clearing. The weight of prophecy still hung in the air, but for the first time, it felt less like a crushing burden and more like a shared adventure.
"Actually, Alric has a point,"
Zaria chimed in, rising gracefully.
"We've all been traveling. There's a small village not far from here, nestled by the river. It's called Eldoria. The people there are simple folk, but kind. We could find sustenance, and perhaps, a quiet place to discuss things further."
"Eldoria?" Althea repeated, a flicker of recognition in her eyes. "My mother spoke of it. A place of peace, she said, far from... everything."
Orion, who had been silently observing the path leading out of the clearing, finally spoke.
"It's a good place to start. A place where we can truly begin to understand why we were brought together." He looked at Althea, a silent question in his steady gaze.
Althea met his eyes, a newfound resolve firming her jaw.
"Then Eldoria it is. If our path begins without a clear destination, then let it begin with a shared meal and shared company. Perhaps in the quiet of a new place, Solara's purpose will become clearer to us all."
Sebastian, already bouncing with renewed energy, clapped his hands together.
"Lead the way, Zaria!
I hear their berries are legendary!"
As the group began to move, leaving the ancient tree behind, the air around
Althea stands at the edge of the clearing, watching her new companions, Zaria, Orion, Alric, and Sebastian, making their way towards the Eldoria. The ancient tree, now behind her, feels less like a monument to grief and more like a silent guardian.
She touches the pendant at her throat, a small, polished stone passed down through her lineage, and speaks aloud, though only the whispering wind is there to listen.
"For so long, the hum of my lineage felt like a solitary song, a mournful echo of what was lost. My mother, Thea.. their presence here, in this very spot, has always been a heavy cloak woven with sorrow and duty. Goddess Solara's prophecy, 'new life from death,' felt like a cruel jest, demanding action from a heart that felt only barren and weary.
I stood here a warrior without a war and a prophecy without a purpose, drowning in the silence of my own unanswered questions.
But now... now, the hum is different. It's no longer just my song. It's a chorus. Zaria's quiet strength, Orion's steady presence, Alric's quick mind, Sebastian's boundless light  they've interwoven with my own, creating a melody I didn't know I craved. The weight of the prophecy hasn't vanished, no, but it's distributed. It's no longer a solitary boulder I must push uphill, but a shared burden, and with that, a shared strength.
'New life from death.'
Perhaps it isn't just about a grand,
heroic deed, a battle won
or a kingdom saved.
This unexpected gathering of souls, drawn together by unseen threads, forming something new, something vibrant, out of the ashes of my past. Hope. It's a fragile thing, a tiny spark in the vast darkness I've known. But it's there, flickering, growing stronger with every shared glance, every soft laugh.
This journey once a solitary march into the unknown and now feels like an adventure waiting to unfold.
And for the first time
I don't feel like I have to walk it alone for once.
