Chapter 42: "A New Chapter of Life"

Romi had always been fiercely independent. She was the kind of person who never gave up, always pushing through any obstacle in her way. But carrying three babies—triplets—was no ordinary challenge. And it wasn’t just the physical toll that was starting to weigh on her. It was the emotional journey too.
As she lay back on the couch in the living room, her hand resting gently on her growing belly, she couldn’t help but sigh. Three little lives inside her. She had never imagined that her life would take such a turn. It was both overwhelming and beautiful at the same time. But the exhaustion was catching up to her.
Sebastian, noticing the tiredness in her eyes, sat down beside her and gently rubbed her back. “How are you feeling today?” he asked softly, his voice filled with concern.
Romi closed her eyes for a moment, savoring the comfort of his touch. “Tired. But it’s more than just the usual pregnancy fatigue. Carrying three babies is a lot more than I expected.”
“I know, love,” Sebastian replied, his voice soothing. “It’s a big responsibility, but you’re doing great. I’m proud of you.”
She smiled, but the weight of it all was undeniable. “Seb, I think I need to talk to you about something,” she said quietly.
“Anything, Romi. What’s on your mind?”
She took a deep breath. “I’ve been thinking a lot about school. I don’t want to disappoint anyone, but I just don’t think I can keep up with it while I’m pregnant with triplets. I need to focus on my health. I need to focus on the babies.”
Sebastian reached over and took her hand, squeezing it gently. “You’re not disappointing anyone. You’re doing what’s best for you and the babies. I support you, Romi. We’ll figure it out.”
She let out a sigh of relief, grateful for his unwavering support. “I just don’t know if I’m ready to give up on everything I’ve worked for.”
“You’re not giving up. You’re taking care of yourself. You’ve already worked so hard to get where you are. Now it’s time to take a step back and focus on the next big chapter of your life. Becoming a mom.”
Romi smiled, a mixture of gratitude and fear settling in her heart. “You’re right,” she said softly. “I just hope I’m doing the right thing.”
Sebastian leaned in and kissed her forehead. “I know you are. And I’ll be right here with you. Every step of the way.”

Later that afternoon, after their conversation, Romi made the call to her university. It was hard, but she knew it was the right decision. The dean was understanding, and after a few moments of hesitation, Romi felt a sense of relief wash over her. She wasn’t giving up—she was just shifting her focus to something even more important.
By the time Sebastian returned from his meeting, she was sitting on the couch, her phone in hand, a small smile on her face.
“I did it,” she said, looking up at him. “I’ve officially taken a break from school. I’m going to focus on the pregnancy and the babies.”
Sebastian smiled, walking over to her and pulling her into a hug. “I’m proud of you, Romi. I know it wasn’t an easy decision, but it’s the right one.”
Romi rested her head on his shoulder, feeling a sense of peace that she hadn’t felt in days. “Thank you for being so understanding.”
“We’re in this together,” Sebastian whispered, kissing her hair.

As the days passed, Romi’s body began to show more signs of her pregnancy. The fatigue, the nausea, and the constant feeling of being overwhelmed became more frequent. But the excitement also started to build.
She could feel the babies moving, little flutters that made her smile even when she was exhausted.
One afternoon, Mia, Damian, and Lucas arrived to visit, bringing their usual warmth and support. Mia was the first to rush over to Romi, pulling her into a tight hug.
“You look amazing!” Mia exclaimed. “How are you feeling?”
Romi chuckled softly, though her smile was a little strained. “I’m hanging in there. It’s a lot to handle, but I’m okay.”
Lucas, always the calming presence, smiled at her from across the room. “How’s Sebastian holding up?” he asked, a playful glint in his eyes.
“Just fine,” Romi replied with a grin. “He’s been amazing. But we’re both starting to realize that three babies is a lot to take on.”
Damian crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow. “Three little ones? That’s going to be something, huh?”
Romi laughed softly. “Yeah, it’s definitely going to be a big change. But we’re excited.”
Sebastian, who had been standing nearby, stepped closer. “We’ve already started planning for the future,” he said, his voice full of pride. “I’m going to make sure Romi has everything she needs.”
Mia grinned at him. “You two are going to be amazing parents. I can already see it.”
Romi looked at them all, her heart swelling with gratitude. “I don’t know what I’d do without you guys.”
Damian smiled. “We’re always here for you, Romi. You’re not alone in this.”
Later that evening, as the group said their goodbyes, Romi and Sebastian stood at the door, watching their friends leave. Romi felt a sense of peace settle in her heart. She wasn’t doing this alone. She had a family—both biological and chosen—who were there for her every step of the way.
As the door closed behind them, Sebastian wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her close. “How do you feel?” he asked softly.
“Grateful,” Romi replied, resting her head on his chest. “Grateful for everything we have and everything we’re about to have.”
Sebastian smiled, his lips brushing her forehead. “We’re going to be okay, Romi. This is just the beginning.”
Romi nodded, looking up at him with a smile that was filled with love and hope. “Yeah, just the beginning.”
And as they stood there together, ready to face whatever the future held, Romi knew one thing for sure: she was ready for the new chapter of her life. A chapter filled with three little lives that would change everything.
And she couldn’t wait to meet them.
