104| New Hints in Pictures

Ben was lying on his bed, pretending to be asleep, to be exact. The knock on the door sounded loud to him. He locked himself in his room after failing to get Rain's attention in the greenhouse. On the contrary, the girl kept demanding Ben to explain about Jace.
Benjamin was fed up because whenever they were together, there was always Jace in between. Even though Jace wasn't physically there, Rain's thoughts and attitude were always on Jace.
Ben tries to ignore the knock. However, her voice kept echoing and getting louder and louder. Ben pulled himself out of bed, grumbling. Even though he pretended to be okay in the greenhouse, his whole body still hurt from the beating he got the night before.
Ben knew who was knocking before he even opened it. Maybe Jace Dauntess is secretly starting to enter Rain's dreams and make the girl panic. So now she whines that she wants to be sent back to Darkwood.
Ben opened the door lazily. Rain was standing outside holding the papers in her hand. The girl's hair was messy, and maybe Rain didn't notice.
Ben leaned against the door frame, trying to ignore the adrenaline kick from seeing her. It wasn't the first time Benjamin had wondered why he could feel that way whenever he faced Rain.
The other girls Ben met at college, the princesses in the ballroom or even any girl he met on the street used their beauty like a whip. But Rain didn't even know that she was beautiful. Maybe that's why Ben was so crazy about the girl.
Ben could only think of one reason Rain was here, even though it didn't make sense after what he had said to the girl.
Benjamin made it clear that Jace was the source of the disaster in their lives. That what made Rain's father disappear and endangered Rain's own life was Jace.
Benjamin never wanted to hurt Rain any more than he ever wanted to hurt any girl. Ben wasn't sure he'd ever wanted to break a girl before. Usually, Ben wants them, then wants them to leave him. But somehow, Ben even had to say such mean words to make Rain turn her back on Jace.
"Do not say!" Benjamin said in a way he knew Rain hated. "Did you have a bad dream about Jace Dauntess? And you want me to do something before that guy dies in your dream? Yes, you have to wait until all these problems are over."
Benjamin pointed at himself. He was wearing blue pajamas that looked a little baggy. "Look! Pajama. I just lay down on my bed."
Rain seemed to hear him barely. Ben realized Rain was holding something in her hands: papers with lots of scribbles.
"Ben," said the girl. "This is important."
"Don't tell me, ah, you asked me to help fold origami paper? You can do it yourself with the help of tutorials on YouTube. We have lots of wi-fi access in this house."
"Ben!" Rain interrupted him. The girl's voice rose to a scream. "Just shut up for a second and listen to me!"
Ben blinked.
"I'm the one who should be angry, not Rain," thought Ben. Because when they are in the greenhouse, Rain hurts Ben and ignores him by continuing to talk about Jace.
Rain took a deep breath and then looked up at Ben. The girl's eyes were full of uncertainty. A familiar urge welled inside Ben, the desire to put his arm around Rain and tell her everything was okay. But Ben didn't. In his experience, all is rarely well.
"Ben," Rain said so quietly that Ben had to lean forward to catch the words. "I think I know where my dad is. It's on the map!"
"What?" Ben looked at Rain as if she was telling him that one of the wolves had just jumped into her bedroom window. "You mean someone hid your dad with a map? However, we don't have any maps to guide us."
"I know!" Rain glanced past Ben toward his bedroom. There was no one else there. Rain became relieved. "May I come? I want to show you something."
Ben backed away from the door. "If that's what it has to be."
Rain sat on Ben's bed. She balances the papers on her knees. The clothes Ben had been wearing had been thrown on the floor. But the rest of the room looked very neat and luxurious. Rain was not surprised by the luxury. She'd even seen a much fancier one in Jace's room.
"Here," Rain said as she flipped through the pages until she found a landscape image. "Look at this."
A few minutes ago in her room, when Rain couldn't sleep, she made rough scribbles on the paper provided on the study table in her room. Rain draws landscapes with origin.
When Rain realized this, Rain created a landscape sketch for some reason. The drawing referred to the front gate of the Darkwood Kingdom. There were a pair of twin trees there—Ralph and his brother and the twin trees were the seal and gateway to the Darkwood Kingdom.
Benjamin sat beside Rain while pushing the pillow on the bed. "This is a picture of twin trees," he said.
"I know these are twin trees. And the name of one of them is Ralph."
"Trees have names? You've given them names, and now you want me to name the other tree?" asked Ben patiently.
Rain looked irritated.
"Okay, I can't wait until you draw something cool, like me. Do you need bare capital right now?"
Rain ignored Benjamin's words. "Look! It is what I want you to see!"
Rain touched the picture. Then with a quick movement, she put her hand into the paper. As if the surface of the paper is a vessel of water that can be easily entered. When Rain pulled her hand back a moment later, she grasped some fallen leaves. It's as if Rain pulled the leaves from the tree in the picture.
Rain had already imagined that Benjamin would jump out of bed with a start or scream something. But that didn't happen. On the other hand, Rain became even more suspicious if Benjamin knew about such things or her dad's whereabouts.
"You can do it?" Ben turned to face Rain.
The girl nodded.
"When?"
"Just now, in my bedroom, after you left."
Benjamin's gaze sharpened, but he didn't bring it up. "You wear runes? Which one?"
It was Rain's turn to be surprised, "You know about runes?"
