Amelia’s POV
“so, how did you start working for my son? You must be really good at what you do for kai to hire you even though you are still a college student who is yet to get her degree” he said. My mind went blank immediately, i wanted to lie but kai was here, i can’t lie. I just have to say the truth.
“i….
I started, but kai interrupted quickly
“i hired her after getting a recommendation from her school. And yes, she is really good at what she does. Now, can you stop asking stupid questions? You’re making her uncomfortable” kai said. Kai's stern interruption caught me off guard, but I couldn't help but appreciate his defence. I didn’t expect him to want to help me out. He shot me another glance which lasted for about 5 seconds.
“if you feel uncomfortable at any point, feel free to leave. Carlos will drop you off” he said to me, making me realize that i had stopped eating after his father’s question came up.
“no, i’m fine. Thank you” i said forcing a smile. I really wanted to leave, but i did not know how to do so without being rude. The dinner lasted longer than i imagined, it was also awkwad and uncomfortable as i was at the edge of my seat the whole time. After the dinner, kai disappeared, so i was left on my own. I decided to take a walk in the garden since Natasha was too busy attending to other visitor to even have time for me. i was in the garden when i perceived the smell of cigarette followed by a familiar voice.
Kai’s POV
“you should be very careful, my dad doesn’t like you. and he get’s rid of whatever he doesn’t like…. He’s just like me” I said. I was sitting alone in the garden when i saw her wandering around. This girl was fucking clueless, she had no idea about how my dislikes her, else, she wouldn’t be out here alone. I was seated on garden chair with a cigarette on my right hand, but i took out the cigarette when i remembered that she was asthmatic.
“i know that. what are you doing out here alone?” she said as she approached me
“i should be asking you that. this is my family’s house, remember? So, i can be wherever i want” i answered
“what are you trying to insinuate? That i’m stalking you?” she asked as her eyes glistened in amusement
“well, kind of” i answered with a shrug
“is this how Italians celebrate birthday parties or it’s just a family culture to only have dinner and not throw elaborate parties?” she asked
“that is how my father wants it. Every year, he would invite his friend and invite some important members of the mafia to his birthday party. They would simply have dinner and meet and great at the end.” I answered while she nodded. Silence stepped in as we both starred at the moonlight, enjoying the serenity of the environment. I was glad things was back to normal now, amelia had been acting a bit too awkward for my liking after what happened last night. I guess it made her really uncomfortable, and i understand. But for some reason, i did not feel sorry about anything. Even if i was to go back in time, i would not change a thing, i would still want it to happen again. The thought of mariano’s offer suddenly crossed my mind, ruining my mood. that bastard! What did he want with her? and why does it have to be her? i could easily pay him any amount he requests for, but he decided to make things difficult for me by asking for amelia. His request wasn’t that difficult, but some reason, i still wasn’t sure if i want to hand her over to him, this should be easy, right? Handing over amelia to him and then he signs the document and i get what i want, what he wants with her should be none of my business, after all, i could easily replace her, but i would never get this opportunity if i loose this deal with mariano. Maybe i should let her chose for herself so i don’t feel guilty in case mariano ends up killing her. I was about saying something when amelia spoke, interrupting me
“you go first” i said to her
“no, you go first. I wasn’t really gonna say something useful” she replied with a nervous smile.
i took a deep breathe, and then started “if someone ask you to handover a property you want to keep, but you know you don’t want to let go of that property, even though you don’t know why you need the property. But keeping this property comes at a steep cost which you cannot afford, what would you do” i asked while she stared at me in confusion. She probably did not expect that question. But the ball was in her court now, whatever response she gives to me is what i will work with
“if the person willing to buy the property is offering a good deal, i mean, you should definitely sell it. After all, you are still sceptical about why you even need the property. You might only end up realizing that you don’t really need this property, and by the time you realize this, it’ll be too late because you would probably have missed a good deal” she said why i watched her in disappointment. That was indeed a smart response, but maybe it pays off to be dumb sometimes. i stared at me for a while, and then looked ahead
“so, you are saying that i give out this property?” i asked
“i don’t know, it’s left to you to decide, i only gave you my opinion. You should decide, do you want to give out this property or not?” she answered with a shrug. No, that wasn’t what i want to hear, i needed a straight forward answer- a yes or no
“don’t throw my question back at me. answer with a yes or no, should i give out this property or not?” i asked, for a moment, i had wished she would say no, but being that she was a fucking ‘know it all’, she gave a disappointing response.
“yes, give out the property” she said. I nodded slowly, little did she know that this discussion was about her and she just agreed to me handing her over to mariano. It wasn’t my fault, she decided her own faith herself.
“very well then. I have a mission for you at mariano’s mansion tomorrow, carlos will take you there”Download Novelah App
