The more Paisley feed the little boy in his private ward, the more her heart continued to race fast, and she couldn't be less happy when the meal was about to finish. She quickly grabbed the bottled water on the white cabinet right next to her, uncapped it, and then gave it to David. After David had drank almost everything, she jumped to her feet and chuckled. “I'll be right back, David,” David couldn't help the frown that crept to his face at that moment. Just when he was about to ask her to tell him a story. “But why, Paisley? I almost finish the whole pork,” he bemoaned, reaching out to drop the bottle on the cabinet, but Paisley had collected it from him and put it there. Paisley put her bottom lip in her mouth while scratching her nape, thinking of an acceptable excuse. She was aware of the fact that David almost finished the whole meal just because he wanted her to be around him throughout. “You see, we have a guest around presently, and he had asked all the nurses to be downstairs for a while now, so I need to go,” she explained in a gentle and cautious tone. David felt bad, but he didn't let it reflect on his expression, so he just nodded. He knew that Paisley was trying her possible best to be always available for him, but then again, she needed to work. Paisley smiled and stooped to peck his both cheeks and after a quick wave, she sauntered out of the ward. From the elevator, Paisley could see that all the nurses were already in the ample reception, and soon recognized the tall frame figure wrapped in an immaculate business suit in the middle to be the chairman's only proud son. The elevator soon chimed and stopped at the last floor. Paisley clutched her outfit in nervousness while she paced out. This would be the second time she would be meeting the chairman's son ever since she had been working here. Although she had not seen him acted in a fierce and decisive manner in the first time, but she didn't know what was waiting for her this time. Summing up her footsteps as quietly as she could, she joined the crowd, standing next to nurse Grace. “Why are you just coming?” Nurse Grace looked at her and whispered. “Had to take care of something,” she whispered back, and right after she completed her words, the next voice she heard made her heart shake inside her chest. “Something more important than my presence?” the rigid voice asked. Slowly, Paisley snatched up her gaze from Nurse Grace's face and looked onward, only to discover that the crowd had split into two paths, and she was now staring at this handsome man dressed in all suit. How did she hear her when she had only whispered? She thought while curling her hands into fists and thinking of what to say. “I'm so sorry, sir,” she apologized instead, bowing her head every now and then. The man walked over to where Paisley was standing slowly, every step was firm and steady with his hands inputted in his suit pocket. His cologne hit Paisley's nostrils, and she almost cowered, not knowing what to think anymore. Was she going to lose her job now? By this time, the rest of the nurses were now whispering among themselves. Most of them were feeling sympathy for Paisley, while a trace of a triumphant grin could be seen on the other's faces. In their opinion, they would be damn delighted if the chairman's son eliminate Paisley. “What were you doing?” his voice was calm this time as he continued to stare down at Paisley, crouching above her. “I was attending to a patient, sir. He needed my attention so badly,” Paisley responded quickly, trying not to make her voice quiver. His presence was so intimidating and could make a person's knee grow weak. He nodded off slowly and gradually walked back to where he was standing earlier. Paisley heaved a silent sigh of relief as soon as he walked away. “As I was saying, there would be an examination for all the nurses next week and the result would only determine those who are still going to continue to work here and those who will evacuate,” Paisley felt her heart missed out a bit as she repeated to herself, “Examination?” “And I personally would be the one to conduct it, so you better all get prepared,” he added, his gaze sweeping across the nurses like a king inspecting the crowd. “Do you understand?” he asked in his usual cold voice. “Yes, sir,” they reacted immediately. With that, he nodded twice and turned around to walk away, but it was as if he soon recalled that he had an unfinished business. He turned back and pointed to Paisley who was conversing with nurse Grace, they were all waiting for him to be out of sight before they would leave. “You,” Hearing his voice again, Paisley tilted her head in his direction and saw that he was pointing to her. Her eyes widened as she put her hand on her chest, “Me, sir?” “Yes, you. Come with me,” he authorized and then spun off. Paisley looked over at Nurse Grace in panic, who in turn patted her shoulder to reassure her. She nodded curtly and thereafter walked off, following right behind him, and soon, they arrived in his tremendous office. The slow and steady steps he amounted to his seat made it seem like he was actually calculating his footsteps. “So, since when have you been working here?” he raised a question immediately after he sat down. Paisley remained standing with her hands entangled in her back. “Five years, sir,” she answered half-heartedly, hating how badly his presence was making her feel. Uneasy. “Have you met me before?” he further asked, rubbing his head and looking at her face as if studying it. “Yes, sir. Just once,” He nodded and scratched the bridge of his nose. It seemed he was at a loss for words. “Okay, you may leave now” he pronounced, hoping Paisley would raise her head to look at him, but she didn't, instead, she bowed even more and then turned on her heels. Watching her figure walking out of the door, his fair and slender hands curled into fists as he thought inside his heart, was he not handsome today? *** Jasmine got off the cab that was parking right in front of her apartment, paid the driver, and then walked into the yard. Meanwhile, a car was parking across the road with four pairs of eyes watching every step she took toward her doorstep from the window. “So, can you do the job?” a feminine voice sounded in the dark car, looking back at the person sitting in the driver's seat. The person was wearing a face back as a disguise, making it difficult for anyone to discern whoever it was. Well, of course, the female sitting in the passenger seat would recognize the person as it occurred that they were both having a deal. “Yes, ma'am. You don't have to worry about anything,” the person on the face cap and sitting in the driver's seat responded. Inferring from his thick and masculine voice, one could effortlessly tell that he was a man even without seeing his face. The woman he was talking to nodded her head before stretching out a brown envelope to him. “You'll receive your balance tomorrow,” she told him. The man adjusted his face cap before opening the envelope and smiled lightly at what he saw inside it. “Alright, ma'am,” “I'll leave you to your job now,” Right after she said that, she carried her purse and then came down from the car. The big smile playing around Jasmine's face sure had not appeared on her face in the past while her cellphone was held up to one of her ears. In the meantime, she already had dinner and even taken her bath and was now speaking to the only person who she had not imagined could bring so much happiness into her life during this short period of time. If anyone had told her that she would fall in love again after what Xavier had done to her, she would definitely deny it, but she did fall in love again. Even though it was unexpected, the love she had for this man was far more than that of the one she had for Xavier then. Every passing day, she grew more in love with him and if she were asked, she would say that Noah was nothing but a man any lady would wish to have around her fingers. “My assistant returned a particular file to my table five times today because of you,” Noah's sweet voice conveyed to her, and she let out a brief but heartily laughter while laying on her bed. “What do you mean, darling? What have I done wrong?” she asked amidst laughter as if knowing what he was talking about. “I'm sure you know what I'm talking about, baby, but please, how can I stop myself from thinking about you while working?” Jasmine's cheek flushed in colors. She thought in her heart that, what was the good deed she had done to receive this pure love in return? “I know how reddened your cheeks have gone by now, but you need to answer my question. Hold on, do you even think of me at all while at work?” Smiling, “Of course, darling. I almost injected the wrong patient this morning while thinking about the love of my life,” It was Noah's turn to blush. Jasmine's words had really affected him so bad, and he could feel the warm sensation traveling through his heart. “Now, my darling is blushing, isn't it?” Jasmine teased, and a loud clatter followed by. She quickly sat right and crawled out of the bed. “Babe, can you hear me?” Noah asked frantically when Jasmine wasn't responding again. “Yes, I can. What did you say?” Jasmine asked while striding to the door and unlocking it, Pacing out of the room, she caught a glimpse of a figure that quickly ran past in the dark living room. Her heart began to hammer in her can't, and she couldn't help shivering. “Noah, I think someone had broken into my apartment,” Right after she said that she raised her hand to switch on the lights, but she felt a sudden and sharp pain in her tummy. “Argh!” she yelped in pain as she watches the person run out of the place. Her phone slip out of her hand and slowly, she crouched to the floor, holding her tummy in anguish. By this time, Noah had raced out of his room with his car immobilizer, shouting into his frantically, “Come on, Jasmine. Don't scare me,” However, he wouldn't get any response from the other end of the line, and he could feel the blood in his whole body boiling as he descended the stairs in twos.
