Episode 23.
He smiled at her, feeling caught in her gaze. It was true, though, he wasn't lying. His father had been a technician, but life had taken a different turn. Circumstances changed, and his father became a doctor instead.
His father had always been passionate about technology, and with his friend, they'd built a secret underground space dedicated to tech development. Together, they dreamed of achieving great things, fueled by their shared knowledge. But time took its toll, and his father's friend grew disheartened after his father gave up on his dream of being a technician.
If his father had stayed on that path, they might have been the richest people in the world. They had the vision and the skills to create things that didn't even exist, inventions that would have benefited humanity. They had big plans, but his father changed his mind. The sickness in the city was getting worse.
He saw firsthand how corrupt the city had become. Most of the doctors were unqualified, and people were dying needlessly. The city lacked skilled doctors, and the ones who were qualified had left for better opportunities.
Staying in the city meant lacking the equipment they needed, facing constant challenges, and even having to provide for themselves. Doctors were paid a monthly salary, which was unfair. They deserved to be paid weekly, at least, for the hours they put in and the lives they saved.
The problem wasn't just working for a month. The money they earned would be gone in a day or two. It was frustrating, especially after all the effort and stress. They couldn't even afford basic things with the hard earned money because it was so little, more like so much for so little. Many skilled professionals were worried and unhappy. When they got offers from other countries that valued their skills, they left immediately.
Daniel's father saw all of this. He decided to sacrifice his own dreams for the sake of his community and became a doctor. He was a technician at heart, but he had a compassionate side. He had helped many people without any formal medical training. That's why he chose to become a doctor,he knew he would also be perfect as a doctor also. His friend was upset at first, but later realized it was the right thing to do. Daniel's father stayed in the city to help the people that are helpless, it was because of him that many people are alive today.
His sacrifices wouldn't be in vain. As long as Daniel lived, he would restore hope to the city and his father's name would be remembered and praised for generations to come.
"I was surprised to hear you talk like that. You're smiling, which means you were lying! Come on, Daniel, you're a bad liar! You don't have to lie to us. Just tell us the truth - you built the underground! You've always been a genius, and we know that. You don't have to hide it from us. We're part of your life now," Tina said, a smile on her face. They were walking down into the underground while Daniel showed them around. They were amazed by the technology and the incredible things he had created. It was like stepping into another world, a safe haven.
"Oh, come on! I know I'm a genius, but I didn't build the underground. And why would I lie to you? You're part of my life now, and you know everything I do. I could just lie for that I built it, and you'd praise me for it," Daniel responded.
"Then who made the underground?" Tina asked.
"You actually think I was lying? My dad built the underground," Daniel stated.
"Really?" Tina asked, surprised.
"Yeah, that's the truth. I wasn't lying. My father was a technician. He graduated at the top of his class, but he switched from technology to medicine because of the problems in our town. He wanted to help people. He saw how many people were dying because of unqualified doctors. He was touched by their suffering and decided to change his path. That's how he became a doctor. I'm sorry I didn't tell you that part," Daniel explained.
The others were shocked. How could someone give up such a promising future? He had built an amazing place, a technological marvel, without even finishing his studies. Imagine what he could have achieved after university! His name could have been known all over the world, even across the galaxy. But he sacrificed it all for his city. And now he was gone.
Sometimes, we need to think carefully about our priorities. If it were someone else, they probably wouldn't have agreed to change their path. Even someone as wise as Tina might not have made the same choice. She would have become the greatest technology inventor, a legend in the world. It's a tough choice – saving a city or becoming a world-renowned inventor. One saves lives, the other makes life easier. It's a different kind of legacy but one of them was more crucial although the other seems to be a powerful legacy.
"Wow, I finally understand how. I wasn't even thinking about it before, but now I get it. Your father was a true freedom fighter who wanted a better city. He sacrificed his future, and yours, to make this city work. He died for it! I just hope you won't spend your whole life, and die, for it without changing anything. I don't see the city changing anytime soon," Castor said.
Castor was a quiet guy, always strategizing and doing his own thing. He kept to himself, thinking things through and knowing how they would turn out. He didn't talk much, but when he did, his words always had a deep meaning. That's what just happened a few seconds ago.
When Castor made that statement, Daniel stopped and looked at him. He didn't seem happy with what Castor said. Everyone thought he was angry, but he wasn't. He was just staring at Castor so he wouldn't say anything like that again. But that didn't mean Castor wasn't right. His dad had died fighting for people, and nothing changed. In fact, things were getting worse every day. Now Daniel was fighting to make things right, but nothing was changing. It was getting worse.
But that didn't mean anyone could talk about his dad like that. Daniel stood there, looking at Castor, and Castor as well was looking into his eyes also.
It was a very big tension between the both of them and it was more like they are about to burst out a fight.
"Guys calm down" Tina whispered looking at the both of them expecting that fight might start soon but then Castor walked past Daniel and reached out to something he saw in front of him. It was a heavy gun, a machine that could kill instantly. It was a weapon of mass destruction.Download Novelah App
