Chapter 9: Demon Tower
The sun hung high in the sky, casting a warm glow over the grounds of the Golden Crest Academy. Excitement buzzed in the air as the students gathered in front of the imposing structure known as the Demons Tower. Today marked the final trial for their enrollment into the academy, and the stakes were higher than ever.
Lucas stood with Aveline, surveying the crowd. “I can’t believe this is it. The last trial before we’re officially students,” he said, a mix of excitement and nerves bubbling within him.
“Yeah, but this one is different,” Aveline replied, glancing toward the towering structure. “We’ll be facing actual demons. It’s a Rank E Demon Tower, but that doesn’t mean we can let our guard down.”
“Right. We have to be smart and work together,” Lucas agreed, his heart racing at the thought of what lay ahead.
As the headmaster stepped forward to address the students, silence fell over the crowd. “Welcome, students, to the final trial: the Demons Tower challenge. You will form groups of ten and ascend the tower, facing various demons at each level. Your objective is to reach the top and retrieve the Crystal of Valor, which signifies your triumph.”
The crowd murmured with anticipation, and Lucas felt the weight of the moment settle in.
“Each group will have an instructor accompanying you. They will provide support if things become too dangerous,” the headmaster continued. “However, I expect you all to demonstrate your skills and teamwork.”
“Let’s find our group,” Aveline suggested, scanning the crowd for familiar faces.
“Right. We need to team up with those we trust,” Lucas agreed, looking around for their classmates.
They spotted a group of familiar faces: Nephy, the girl who had previously demonstrated her rare abilities; Rael, a confident swordsman; and Zara, a talented mage with a knack for elemental spells.
“Hey! Over here!” Nephy waved, beckoning them over.
“Looks like we’ve got a solid team,” Aveline said, grinning as they approached.
“Let’s do this,” Rael said, his eyes gleaming with determination. “We’ll take on the tower and show them what we’re made of.”
“Remember, communication is key,” Zara chimed in. “We need to coordinate our attacks and support each other.”
As the headmaster began assigning groups, Lucas felt a surge of adrenaline. “This is our chance to prove ourselves,” he whispered to Aveline.
Finally, the headmaster called out their group. “Group Seven: Lucas, Aveline, Nephy, Rael, and Zara. You are to enter the Demons Tower now.”
“Here we go!” Aveline said, her voice filled with excitement.
They walked toward the entrance of the tower, the heavy wooden doors creaking as they pushed them open. A dark corridor stretched ahead, lit only by flickering torches on the walls.
“Stay close,” Lucas said, his voice steady. “Let’s stick together and keep an eye out for any surprises.”
As they ventured deeper into the tower, the atmosphere shifted. Shadows danced around them, and an eerie silence enveloped the group. The further they went, the more palpable the tension became.
“First floor: let’s see what we’re up against,” Nephy said, her voice barely above a whisper.
As they stepped into the first room, a low growl echoed through the air. A hulking demon, its skin a sickly shade of green, emerged from the darkness, glaring at them with blood-red eyes.
“Here we go!” Rael shouted, drawing his sword. “Let’s take it down!”
“Remember to work together!” Aveline called out, readying her magic.
The demon lunged at them, swinging a massive fist. Lucas quickly raised his hands, summoning shadows to create a barrier. The shadows enveloped the demon’s fist, absorbing the impact.
“Nice one, Lucas!” Zara shouted, launching a fireball toward the demon’s exposed flank.
The fireball exploded on contact, momentarily stunning the creature. “Now’s our chance!” Nephy exclaimed, conjuring a gust of wind to push the demon back.
“Keep attacking! Don’t let up!” Lucas encouraged, focusing on the shadows to restrain the demon further.
Rael charged forward, slashing at the demon’s legs with precision. “We need to bring it down!”
As the demon stumbled, Aveline unleashed a torrent of wind, pushing it back against the wall. “Now, everyone! Finish it!”
With coordinated strikes, they overwhelmed the demon. Nephy launched a wave of energy, while Zara sent another fireball. Lucas focused on his shadows, intertwining them with their attacks.
The demon let out a final roar before collapsing to the ground in a heap of darkness.
“First floor cleared!” Rael shouted, a triumphant grin on his face.
“Let’s move on before more show up,” Aveline urged, glancing back into the shadows.
As they ascended to the next floor, Lucas felt a thrill of excitement. “We can do this!” he said, adrenaline coursing through his veins.
The second floor presented another challenge. This time, a group of smaller, faster demons darted around, their movements almost impossible to track.
“Stay sharp! They’re quick!” Zara warned, preparing another spell.
“Split up! We can catch them off guard!” Lucas shouted, directing the group.
“Got it!” Aveline replied, rushing to the left while Rael took the right.
Lucas concentrated, summoning shadows to create tendrils that reached out to ensnare the demons. “Now, Zara! Fire!”
Zara launched her fireball, hitting one of the demons squarely and causing it to screech in pain. Nephy followed up with a gust of wind, knocking another off balance.
“Focus on the ones that are down!” Rael called out, using his sword to finish off a demon that had fallen.
As the group worked together, Lucas felt their synergy growing. “Keep moving! Don’t let them regroup!”
They continued battling through the horde of demons, coordinating their attacks flawlessly. After a heated struggle, they emerged victorious once again.
“Two floors down!” Nephy cheered, breathing heavily.
“Let’s keep it going! We’re on a roll!” Aveline said, her excitement contagious.
The third floor proved to be the most challenging yet. As they entered, they were greeted by a powerful demon unlike any they had faced before—taller and more formidable, with jagged horns and a glimmering aura.
“This one’s tougher. Stay alert!” Lucas warned, gripping his staff tightly.
“Let me handle this!” Rael shouted, charging forward.
“Wait!” Aveline called, but Rael was already in motion.
As Rael engaged the demon, it retaliated with a ferocious swipe. Rael narrowly dodged but stumbled, giving the demon an opening.
“Rael, watch out!” Nephy shouted, summoning a barrier of wind to protect him.
Lucas quickly focused his energy, intertwining shadows with Aveline’s wind magic to create a protective dome around Rael. “Stay back and let us support you!”
“Thanks, guys!” Rael said, regaining his footing.
The demon roared in frustration, and Lucas seized the moment. “Zara, hit it with everything you’ve got!”
Zara nodded, her hands glowing with elemental energy. “Here it comes!” She unleashed a torrent of flames that engulfed the demon, making it stumble back.
“Now!” Lucas yelled, directing his shadows to bind the demon’s legs.
The demon howled, struggling against the restraints. “Keep pushing! We can bring it down!” Aveline urged, her determination unwavering.
Together, they launched a coordinated assault. Nephy focused her energy, creating a whirlpool of wind that disoriented the demon. Rael struck from behind, his sword slashing through the air.
Finally, with a unified effort, they brought the demon crashing to the ground. The group let out a collective sigh of relief as they stood over their vanquished foe.
“Three down! We’re doing great!” Lucas exclaimed, his heart racing.
“Just a few more floors to go,” Aveline reminded them, her excitement tempered by focus.
The fourth floor held yet another trial. This time, they faced a series of puzzles that required not only combat skills but also problem-solving abilities.
“Looks like we need to solve this to move on,” Nephy said, examining a large stone tablet covered in runes.
“Let’s see if we can decipher it together,” Zara suggested, stepping closer to study the markings.
As they worked on the puzzle, Lucas felt the urgency mounting. “We have to be quick! The demons will come for us!”
“Almost there!” Nephy said, pointing at a specific symbol. “This rune matches the others! We need to press it!”
“Do it!” Aveline urged, her eyes scanning the surroundings for any signs of danger.
Nephy pressed the rune, and the ground rumbled as the stone tablet shifted, revealing a hidden door.
“Let’s go!” Rael urged, and they rushed through the door just as a horde of smaller demons flooded into the room.
“Quick! Close it!” Lucas shouted, focusing his shadows to seal the door behind them.
“Nice thinking!” Zara exclaimed as they sprinted up the stairs.
The fifth floor presented their greatest challenge yet. As they entered, the room was dimly lit, filled with a thick mist that obscured their vision.
“Stay close!” Aveline cautioned, straining to see through the fog.
“Something’s not right,” Lucas said, unease creeping in. “I
can feel it.”
Suddenly, a figure emerged from the mist—a large, imposing demon with a malicious grin, its eyes glowing with a menacing light.
“Welcome, little humans,” it taunted, its voice echoing around the chamber. “You think you can defeat me?”
“Don’t let it intimidate you!” Rael shouted, brandishing his sword. “We’ve come this far!”
“We’ll show you our strength!” Nephy declared, her voice firm as she summoned a whirlwind of energy.
The demon laughed, sending chills down Lucas’s spine. “You’ll regret challenging me!”
“Let’s go!” Lucas yelled, summoning shadows to bolster their defenses.
As the battle ensued, the demon unleashed powerful energy blasts that rocked the room. Lucas and Aveline worked together, weaving shadows and wind to deflect the attacks.
“Focus on dodging! We can wear it down!” Aveline called, her determination unwavering.
The group fought fiercely, coordinating their attacks and supporting one another. As the demon staggered, Lucas saw an opening.
“Now, together! Finish it!” he shouted, channeling all his energy into a final strike.
With a united roar, they unleashed their combined magic—fire, wind, and shadows converging into a singular force that engulfed the demon. It let out a final howl before dissipating into mist.
“Victory!” Nephy cheered, breathing heavily.
“Just one more floor!” Zara exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with triumph.
As they ascended to the final level, a sense of accomplishment filled Lucas. “We did it. We’ve faced everything they’ve thrown at us.”
They stepped into the final room, where a pedestal stood, illuminated by a soft glow. On it rested the Crystal of Valor, a radiant gem that pulsed with energy.
“Wow, look at that!” Aveline breathed, eyes wide with awe.
“Let’s grab it!” Rael said, moving forward.
But as he reached for the crystal, a wave of energy swept through the room, and the crystal surged with light.
“Wait!” Lucas shouted, sensing a powerful presence.
Suddenly, a portal opened, revealing a massive demon emerging from the shadows. “You fools! You thought you could take the Crystal of Valor so easily?”
“Another one?” Aveline gasped, her excitement turning to dread.
“This is our last challenge!” Lucas said, summoning all his strength. “We have to fight!”
With determination, the group rallied, ready to face the final demon together. The air crackled with tension as they prepared for their ultimate test.
“We can’t let this one defeat us! We’ve come too far!” Lucas declared, gripping his staff tightly.
“Together!” Rael shouted, raising his sword.
“Let’s finish this!” Nephy added, summoning her energy.
As they launched into battle, Lucas felt a surge of power course through him. He had faced many challenges, but this was the culmination of everything they had trained for.
“Fight as one!” Aveline cried, and with that rallying cry, they charged into the fray.
The battle raged on, each of them fighting with everything they had. Shadows clashed with fire and wind, creating a whirlwind of energy that filled the room.
Together, they would claim their victory—together, they would prove their worth.
---
After an intense struggle, their combined forces overwhelmed the final demon, banishing it back into the shadows. The room erupted in light as the Crystal of Valor illuminated their faces.
“We did it!” Lucas shouted, breathless but exhilarated.
They stood together, triumphant, their bond stronger than ever. The challenges of the Demons Tower had forged them into a team capable of overcoming any obstacle.
As they descended the tower, Crystal of Valor in hand, Lucas felt a sense of belonging wash over him. This was just the beginning of their journey at Golden Crest Academy, and he was ready to face whatever awaited them.Download Novelah App
