The next day, I woke up with a sense of determination coursing through my veins. I knew that I couldn't go through with Victor Martinez's sinister plan to kill my brother Liam, and I needed to find a way to stop him. Instead of going to work at the construction site, I decided to reach out to Detective James, hoping that he could help me navigate this treacherous situation. I arrived at the police station, my heart racing with anxiety as I thought about the events of the previous day. I asked to speak with Detective James, and after a few minutes, he emerged from his office, looking curious. "What can I do for you?" he asked, his eyes narrowing slightly as he took in my expression. "I need to tell you something," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "Victor Martinez approached me yesterday and told me to kill my brother Liam. He's threatening to harm my son if I don't do it." Detective James's expression turned serious, his eyes widening in surprise. "Tell me more," he said, leading me to a quiet room in the back of the station. I took a deep breath and explained everything that had happened, from Martinez's initial threat to his demand that I kill Liam. I told him about the gun, the warehouse, and the menacing tone in Martinez's voice. Detective James listened intently, his eyes never leaving mine, as he took notes and asked occasional questions. "I see," he said when I finished, his voice firm and resolute. "And you're sure Martinez is behind this?" I nodded emphatically. "Positive. I've seen the way he operates. He's ruthless and will stop at nothing to get what he wants." Detective James nodded thoughtfully, his eyes narrowing as he processed the information. "Okay, we'll look into it. But I need you to be careful. Martinez is a dangerous man, and if he finds out you're talking to us, he'll make good on his threat." I felt a chill run down my spine as I thought about the consequences of crossing Martinez. But I knew that I had to protect my son, no matter what. "I know," I said, my voice firm. "But I have to protect my son. I'll do whatever it takes." Detective James nodded, his expression understanding. "I know you will. We'll do everything we can to help you. But in the meantime, I need you to stay close to your son. Don't let him out of your sight." I nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. I knew that I had made the right decision in coming to Detective James. "What's the plan?" I asked, eager to know what steps we could take to stop Martinez. Detective James leaned forward, his eyes locked on mine. "We'll start by investigating Martinez's alibi for the time he approached you. If we can prove he was in the area, we can start building a case against him." I nodded, feeling a sense of hope. Maybe, just maybe, we could take down Martinez and keep my son safe. "We'll also look into his associates," Detective James continued. "See if anyone else was involved in the threat." I nodded again, feeling a sense of determination. I knew that this wouldn't be easy, but I was ready to do whatever it took to protect my son and take down Victor Martinez. "Thank you," I said, standing up to leave. Detective James nodded. "Just be careful. We'll be in touch soon." I left the police station feeling a sense of purpose. I knew that I had a long road ahead of me, but I was ready to face whatever challenges came my way. I was determined to protect my son and bring Victor Martinez to justice, no matter what it took. I drove to Liam's territory, my heart racing with anxiety as I thought about the events that had transpired. Even though his men already knew me as one of them, they never let me in without a thorough check. I pulled out my phone and dialed Liam's number, waiting for him to answer. "What's up?" he said, his voice gruff as usual. "It's me," I replied. "I need to see you. It's urgent." Liam chuckled. "What's so urgent? Can't handle the heat?" I took a deep breath, trying to remain calm. "Victor Martinez wants you dead, Liam. He's threatening to kill my son Mike if I don't do it." There was a pause on the other end of the line, and for a moment, I thought I'd lost the connection. But then Liam spoke up. "Let him in," he said to someone in the background. I heard the sound of footsteps and then the gate creaked open. I drove in, my heart still racing with anxiety. As I entered Liam's office, I was greeted by the familiar sight of his men lounging around, their faces a mixture of curiosity and suspicion. Liam himself was sitting behind his desk, a smirk on his face. "So, Victor wants me dead, huh?" he said, chuckling. I nodded, trying to keep my cool. "Yes, Liam. He's serious. He's got a gun and everything." Liam laughed, a deep, throaty sound. "Oh, man. That's rich. Victor thinks he can take me down?" I shook my head, trying to convey the gravity of the situation. "Liam, this isn't funny. My son's life is at stake." Liam's expression turned serious, and he leaned forward. "I know, I know. I believe you. But Victor's been trying to take me down for years. He's not going to succeed now." I took a deep breath, trying to calm down. "Liam, please. You have to take this seriously. Victor's not someone to mess with." Liam nodded, his expression thoughtful. "I know. I'll take care of it. But you have to promise me one thing." "What's that?" I asked, my curiosity piqued. "You have to promise me you'll stay out of this. Let me handle Victor. I don't want you getting hurt." I hesitated, unsure of what to say. Part of me wanted to insist on being involved, on helping Liam take down Victor. But another part of me knew that Liam was right. I had to protect myself, and more importantly, my son. "Okay, Liam. I promise," I said finally. Liam smiled, a fierce glint in his eye. "Good. I'll take care of Victor. You just take care of your son." I nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. I knew that Liam would do everything in his power to protect me and my son. And I knew that I had to trust him, no matter what. "Thanks, Liam," I said, standing up to leave. Liam nodded. "No problem, brother. We'll take care of this." I left Liam's office feeling a sense of hope. Maybe, just maybe, we could take down Victor Martinez and keep my son safe.
