Chapter 7

After that long journey, I finally arrived at the heart of the enchanted forest, a clearing bathed in an ethereal glow. And there he was, the deer, his eyes gleaming with an ancient wisdom.
He had been waiting for me. Maybe he knew what had happened, maybe he knew why I was here.
I got off the horse, the animal nuzzling my hand as if to comfort me. I stroked its mane, feeling a surge of gratitude for its companionship. Then, I strode towards the deer, my heart pounding with a mix of fear and determination.
"Now I'll ask you this time once, young lady, will you be the guardian of elements?" His voice, a deep baritone, echoed through the clearing.
I knew it. He knew what had happened, and why I was here. He knew about the mark, about Mrs. Charlotte, about the danger that lurked in the shadows.
"I will accept this destiny. Yes, I will." My voice was firm, my resolve unwavering. I had to do this, for Mrs. Charlotte, for Harton, for myself. I had to be the guardian, even if it meant sacrificing everything I knew, everything I loved.
"Then you will forget every single thing you have. You will only remember that you are a guardian, and no one will ever recognize you."
His words, a cruel twist of fate, echoed in my mind. But I had made my choice. I was ready to become the guardian, to face the darkness, to protect the world, even if it meant losing everything.
After he said that, everything around me was glowing. A blinding light erupted from the sky, a celestial beacon that seemed to pierce my very soul.
The deer was enveloped in the light, his antlers shimmering with an otherworldly radiance. And then, everything went blank. The world dissolved into a swirling vortex of light and color, a kaleidoscope of sensations that overwhelmed my senses.
I felt a strange sense of peace, a quiet acceptance of the unknown. And then, darkness. A deep, profound darkness that swallowed me whole.
.
Three years later...
"It's the coronation day of the king tomorrow. They believe that if we bless them, they will have the strongest economy, and he will be the greatest king to rule. Long live the king!"
"Did you do this before?" I asked, a hint of skepticism in my voice.
"Well yeah, they know we exist. But I've done that a long time ago, when King Henry's coronation." He chuckled, a sound that seemed to echo through the ages.
"That was a long time ago. I don't think they still believe we exist." I wasn't sure if I was stating a fact or expressing a wish.
"I don't think I should go. Why would I follow your command? I don't even know your name." My voice was firm, my resolve hardening. I wasn't going to be manipulated, to be used as a pawn in some ancient game. I was the guardian, and I had a mind of my own.
This man, I don't even know his name. He just turns into human form and now he's asking me to bless the new king, when he just did that a long time ago.
Is he psycho? He seems to be taking this all very lightly, like it's some kind of game. But this is serious. This is about the fate of a kingdom, about the balance of power.
"Look, I'm not going to do this just because you say so. Tell me who you are, and why I should trust you."
I crossed my arms, my gaze unwavering. I needed answers, I needed to understand the situation before I made any decisions. This wasn't a game, this was my life, my destiny.
"Oh, let me introduce myself. I'm Kaufman, your co-guardian. HEHE." He gave a chuckle, a sound that sent a shiver down my spine.
"So, Mr. Kaufman, why don't you just go, and I'll be staying here exploring this forest since I'm new, right?" I tried to sound nonchalant, but my voice betrayed my rising frustration.
"Ms. Zerah, I believe since you're just new here, you must do that." He said it so casually, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
Wow, this man is getting on my nerves. Does he know I have no idea how to do that? This man really is a psycho, confirmed.
He's expecting me to just waltz in and bless the king, as if it were some kind of walk in the park. He doesn't even seem to care about the consequences, about the danger involved.
"Look, Mr. Kaufman, I'm not going to do anything I'm not comfortable with. I need to understand what's going on here, what my role is. And frankly, I'm not sure I trust you." I crossed my arms, my gaze unwavering.
I wasn't going to be bullied, I wasn't going to be manipulated. I was the guardian, and I had a right to know what was going on.
"Mr. Kaufman, do you know that I have no idea how to do that, huh?" I asked, my voice laced with exasperation.
"Good thing you asked." He grinned, a mischievous glint in his eye.
I ask? Is he going, and I'll stay here? Finally, he gets it. Well, I'm sure we'll get along, share the same vibes.
I mean, we're both guardians, right? We're supposed to work together, to protect the world. Maybe he's just a little eccentric, a little too eager to get things done. But I'm sure we'll find a way to make this work.
“Come with me, Ms. Zerah, I will teach you how.”
Now I’m taking it back. I hate this man. We will never get along with each other. We need to separate. He can be the guard in the palace. Why is he so afraid to go out? Well, is he?
"
So, what happens now?" I asked, feeling a surge of curiosity. "Do you just, like, disappear? Or do I have to do something?"
I was starting to feel a little more at ease. Maybe this wasn't so bad after all. Maybe this whole guardian thing wasn't so scary. Maybe I could actually do this.
“Come with me, Ms. Zerah, I will teach you how.”
Now I’m taking it back. I hate this man. We will never get along with each other. We need to separate. He can be the guard in the palace. Why is he so afraid to go out? Well, is he?
