Chapter 15: Morning Routine.

As I woke up, the morning sunlight peeked through the window, casting a warm glow on our room. I stretched, feeling a mix of exhaustion and determination. Rachel was already up, getting ready for our morning run. We had started this routine together, and it had become a great way to clear our minds and bond.
"Morning!" Rachel chimed, her voice bright and cheerful. "Ready to tackle the day?"
I nodded, putting on my running shoes. "Yeah, let's do this."
As we left our room and began our jog, the crisp morning air invigorated me. The sound of birds chirping and leaves rustling filled the air, creating a serene atmosphere. Rachel waited until we were in a steady rhythm before asking, "Hey, what happened last night? You were in tears when you came back."
I took a deep breath, unsure where to start. "It's Ethan," I began, my voice measured.
Rachel's expression turned curious. "What about him?"
I hesitated, collecting my thoughts. "We talked last night...and he basically told me he can't love me. He's too broken, too damaged."
Rachel's eyes widened in surprise. "Oh, Amanda, I'm so sorry. That must have been really tough to hear."
I continued, the words flowing out like a river. "He said he can only offer me a physical relationship, nothing more. He doesn't want to hurt me, but he can't give me what I deserve."
Rachel's face reflected her empathy. "That must have felt like a punch to the gut. You thought you had a connection with him, didn't you?"
I nodded, feeling the sting of tears again. "I did. I thought we had something real. But I guess I was wrong."
Rachel placed a supportive hand on my arm. "You deserve so much better than someone who can't love you back. But I know you care about him deeply."
I sighed, my emotions tangled. "I do, but I don't know if I can settle for just a physical relationship. I want more. I want to be loved, to be cherished."
Rachel nodded understandingly. "You need to take care of yourself, Amanda. Don't settle for something that will hurt you in the long run. You deserve someone who will love you wholeheartedly."
We jogged in silence for a moment, the only sound our footsteps and heavy breathing. The sun rose higher in the sky, casting a warm glow over the landscape.
"What are you going to do?" Rachel asked finally.
I shrugged, uncertainty etched on my face. "I don't know yet. Part of me wants to try to reach him, to help him heal. But another part of me says to walk away, to protect myself."
Rachel's expression turned resolute. "Whatever you decide, I'll be here for you, supporting you every step of the way. You're not alone in this, Amanda."
Her words warmed my heart, and I smiled, feeling grateful for my friend's unwavering support. Together, we continued our jog, the morning sun shining down on us, symbolizing a new day full of possibilities and unknowns.
As we continued our jog, I decided to open up more to Rachel, sharing the intricate details of my situation with Ethan.
"There's something else," I said, my voice barely above a whisper, my words carried away by the gentle morning breeze.
Rachel glanced at me curiously, her eyes sparkling with concern. "What is it, Amanda?"
I took a deep breath, the cool morning air filling my lungs, before revealing the truth. "I accepted his offer. I agreed to be in a physical relationship with him."
Rachel's eyes widened in surprise, her eyebrows shooting up in alarm. "Amanda, are you sure that's a good idea?" she asked, her voice laced with skepticism.
I nodded resolutely, determination etched on my face. "I know it sounds crazy, Rachel, but I believe I can reach him. I can help him heal."
Rachel's expression turned skeptical, her lips pursed in concern. "But he told you he's too broken, too damaged. He said you'll never get to his heart."
I nodded again, my resolve unwavering. "I know. But I have to try, Rachel. I have to believe that I can make a difference. That I can help him overcome his past and find happiness."
Rachel sighed, concern etched on her face, her eyes filled with empathy. "I'm not a fan of you getting hurt by Ethan in any way possible. But..."
She paused, collecting her thoughts, her gaze drifting off into the distance.
"...here's something that sounds like progress. No one in this school knew about Ethan's past, about what makes him tick. The fact that you now know something no one else knows...that makes you the closest person to him."
I smiled, feeling a glimmer of hope, a sense of possibility. "You think so?"
Rachel nodded, her expression turning encouraging. "Yes, I do. You have a chance to connect with him on a deeper level. To understand him in a way no one else can."
I felt a surge of determination, my heart pounding with excitement. "Then I'll do it, Rachel. I'll show Ethan that I care. That I'm willing to take the risk to help him heal."
Rachel smiled, her eyes filled with encouragement. "Then go for it, Amanda. Show Ethan that you're not afraid to take the leap. But remember, I'm here for you, no matter what happens."
We continued our jog, the morning sun shining down on us, casting a warm glow over our determined faces. The world seemed full of possibilities, and I felt ready to face whatever lay ahead.
As we walked back to the hostel, Rachel's encouraging words still resonated in my mind, filling me with a sense of hope and determination. I felt a renewed sense of purpose, a conviction that I could indeed reach Ethan's heart, no matter how long it took.
As we approached the hostel, I noticed a familiar figure standing on the rooftop. Ethan. Again. But this time, he wasn't gazing out into the distance, lost in thought. This time, his eyes were fixed on me.
My heart skipped a beat as our eyes met, a spark of electricity running through my veins. I felt a flutter in my chest, my pulse racing with anticipation.
Rachel noticed him too, her gaze following mine. "Looks like someone's waiting for you," she whispered, a sly smile spreading across her face.
I nodded, my eyes still locked on Ethan's. He didn't smile, didn't wave. He just kept looking at me, his expression unreadable.
As we walked past the area where he could see us, I felt his gaze follow me, like a warm caress on my skin. I didn't look back, but I could sense his eyes on me, boring into my soul.
Rachel nudged me playfully. "I think you've got his attention, Amanda."
I blushed, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. What did Ethan want? Was he rethinking our agreement?
As we entered the hostel, I couldn't shake off the feeling that Ethan's gaze had left on me. It was as if he had seen right through me, into the depths of my soul.
I turned to Rachel, my voice barely above a whisper. "Do you think he's changing his mind?"
Rachel shrugged. "Only one way to find out."
I nodded, determination coursing through my veins. I would find out what Ethan wanted, and I would make sure to reach his heart, no matter what it took.
With renewed resolve, I headed towards the rooftop, ready to face whatever lay ahead.
