Chapter 20: A New Ally
Chapter 20: A New Ally
The ancient library of the sorceress Elysia was hidden deep within the labyrinthine alleys of Rome, its existence known only to a select few. The entrance was a small, unassuming wooden door marked with arcane symbols that glowed faintly in the dim light of dusk. Sariah and Lyon had heard rumors of a powerful sorceress who might aid them in their battle against the alien invaders, and after days of searching, they finally stood before her sanctuary.
Lyon knocked on the door, and it creaked open seemingly of its own accord.
"I guess this is the place," he murmured, glancing at Sariah.
She nodded, her eyes scanning the dark hallway beyond.
"Let's go. We need all the help we can get."
They stepped inside, the door closing behind them with a soft thud. The air was cool and filled with the scent of ancient books and herbs. Dim light from flickering candles cast eerie shadows on the walls, and shelves lined with dusty tomes stretched into the darkness.
A voice echoed from the depths of the library, smooth and commanding.
"Welcome, Sariah and Lyon. I have been expecting you."
Sariah and Lyon exchanged surprised glances before venturing further in. They found Elysia seated at a large wooden desk, her piercing green eyes watching them intently. She was an imposing figure, her long silver hair flowing over a robe adorned with mystical symbols.
"How do you know our names?" Lyon asked, suspicion lacing his voice.
Elysia smiled enigmatically.
"I have my ways. The threads of fate are woven tightly around you two. Please, sit. We have much to discuss."
They took the offered seats, still wary but intrigued. Sariah couldn't shake the feeling that they were in the presence of someone incredibly powerful.
Elysia clasped her hands together, leaning forward slightly.
"You seek to end the alien threat, correct?"
Sariah nodded.
"Yes, we need any information or assistance you can provide."
The sorceress regarded them thoughtfully. "The aliens you face are not mere invaders. They are interdimensional beings, capable of manipulating reality itself. Their leader, Ajix, is particularly dangerous. His power grows with each passing day."
"We need to stop him," Lyon said firmly.
"But we need more than just our abilities."
Elysia stood, moving gracefully to a nearby shelf. She selected a thick, leather-bound book and placed it on the table before them. "This grimoire contains spells and rituals that may aid you. However, there is one spell in particular that could turn the tide of battle in your favor."
Sariah leaned forward, her interest piqued. "What kind of spell?"
"A binding spell," Elysia replied. "It can trap Ajix within a mystical barrier, rendering him powerless. But it requires great strength and precision to cast."
Lyon frowned. "Sounds risky. Can you teach us how to do it?"
Elysia nodded. "I can, but it will take time and practice. You must be prepared for the dangers it entails."
"We don't have much time," Sariah said, determination in her voice. "The aliens are growing stronger every day. We'll do whatever it takes."
Elysia smiled approvingly. "Your resolve is admirable. Very well, we shall begin immediately. But first, there is something I must show you."
She led them to a hidden chamber at the back of the library. The room was filled with ancient artifacts and glowing crystals. In the center stood a large, ornate mirror, its surface swirling with colors.
"This is the Mirror of Truth," Elysia explained. "It reveals the true nature of anyone who stands before it. To cast the binding spell, you must first face your own inner demons."
Sariah and Lyon exchanged nervous glances. "What do you mean by 'inner demons'?" Sariah asked.
Elysia gestured to the mirror. "Stand before it, and you will see. It is a test of strength and character. Only those who can confront and conquer their fears can wield the power needed to defeat Ajix."
Taking a deep breath, Sariah stepped forward, her reflection coming into view. The colors within the mirror began to swirl faster, and soon an image of herself appeared, distorted and menacing. It spoke in a voice that was both her own and something else entirely.
"You think you can save the world?" the reflection sneered. "You're just a scared little girl, hiding behind your songs. You'll fail, and everyone you love will suffer."
Sariah felt a chill run down her spine, but she stood her ground. "I won't let fear control me. I have the power to protect those I care about, and I will use it."
The reflection shimmered and then vanished, leaving Sariah's true image behind. Elysia nodded in approval. "You have faced your fear and emerged stronger. Now, Lyon, it is your turn."
Lyon approached the mirror, his heart pounding. The swirling colors resolved into an image of himself, but this version was angry and defiant.
"You think you're a hero?" the reflection taunted. "You're just a troublemaker, a lost cause. No one believes in you, not even yourself."
Lyon clenched his fists, the words striking a deep chord within him. "I may have made mistakes, but I've found something worth fighting for. I won't let my past define me."
The reflection faded, leaving Lyon's real reflection staring back at him. He felt a sense of relief and newfound confidence.
Elysia smiled. "You have both passed the test. Now, we can begin your training."
Over the next few days, Elysia guided Sariah and Lyon through the intricacies of the binding spell. They practiced tirelessly, honing their skills and growing stronger with each passing day. Elysia was a patient and wise teacher, her knowledge of magic seemingly limitless.
One evening, as they took a break from their training, Sariah and Lyon sat together in the library, their bond growing deeper with each challenge they faced.
"Do you think we can really do this?" Sariah asked, her voice tinged with uncertainty.
Lyon reached out, taking her hand in his. "We've come this far, haven't we? We'll find a way. Together."
Sariah smiled, drawing strength from his words. "You're right. We can't give up now."
Elysia entered the room, her expression serious. "There is one final task before you can fully master the binding spell. You must retrieve the Heart of the Phoenix, an artifact of immense power. It lies hidden within the ruins of an ancient temple, guarded by powerful alien forces."
Lyon stood, determination in his eyes. "We'll get it. Just tell us where to find it."
Elysia handed them a map, her gaze steady. "Be careful. The path is fraught with danger, but I have faith in you both."
With the map in hand, Sariah and Lyon set out on their new quest, their resolve unshaken. They knew the challenges ahead would be great, but with Elysia's guidance and their growing bond, they felt ready to face whatever lay ahead.
As they ventured into the unknown, the words of the sorceress echoed in their minds. "You have the strength within you to overcome any obstacle. Trust in yourselves, and in each other. The fate of the world rests in your hands."
Together, they would face their greatest challenges yet, and in doing so, they would discover the true extent of their own power and the unbreakable bond that had formed between them.Download Novelah App
