Chapter 10 TENTH GOODBYE
Chapter 10: Morning Confessions
Alexandra woke up to the soft glow of dawn filtering through the curtains. She blinked, momentarily disoriented, before her surroundings came into focus. She was in Alexander’s apartment, nestled under the warmth of his blanket. The events of the past week came rushing back, and she sighed, a mix of emotions swirling within her.
She shifted slightly and noticed Alexander sitting on a chair nearby, already dressed in his work uniform. His eyes were on her, a gentle smile playing on his lips. There was something tender in his gaze, something that made her heart ache with a bittersweet longing.
“Good morning,” he said softly, his voice carrying the warmth of the morning sun.
“Good morning,” she replied, her voice still husky with sleep. She propped herself up on one elbow, studying him. “How long have you been watching me?”
He chuckled lightly, the sound a balm to her weary soul. “Not long. I just couldn’t help myself.”
She smiled, but the smile soon faded as a question she had been avoiding rose to the surface. She looked down, her fingers tracing the edge of the blanket. “Alexander, can I ask you something?”
“Of course,” he said, leaning forward, his expression serious.
“Do you… do you believe what the townsfolk say about me?” Her voice was barely above a whisper, each word heavy with the weight of her fears. “That I’m a slut, that I make money by… by sleeping with men?”
Alexander’s eyes softened, and he stood up, walking over to sit on the edge of the bed. He reached out, gently lifting her chin so she was forced to meet his gaze. “No, Alexandra, I don’t believe them. I never have.”
Her eyes welled up with tears, her breath hitching in her throat. “But what if… what if it were true? Would you still care for me?”
He stroked her cheek with his thumb, his touch light and comforting. “Even if it were true, it wouldn’t change how I feel about you. I care for you, Alexandra, not because of what others say, but because of who you are. Your past, your mistakes, none of that matters to me. What matters is you, here and now.”
A tear slipped down her cheek, and he wiped it away gently. “You’re not defined by their words. You’re so much more than they will ever understand.”
She closed her eyes, leaning into his touch. His words seeped into her, filling the cracks in her heart with a warmth she hadn’t felt in years. “Thank you,” she whispered, her voice trembling. “Thank you for believing in me.”
He pulled her into his arms, holding her close. “Always, Alexandra. I’ll always believe in you.”
They stayed like that for a while, wrapped in each other’s embrace. The world outside might still be cruel and judgmental, but in that moment, they had each other. And for Alexandra, that was enough. As long as Alexander was by her side, she knew she could face whatever came her way.
Eventually, he pulled back, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead. “I have to go to work now, but I’ll be back this evening. Will you be okay?”
She nodded, her eyes filled with a newfound determination. “Yes, I’ll be okay. Because I know you’ll come back.”
He smiled, his eyes twinkling with affection. “I always will.”
With one last kiss, he stood up, grabbing his things. Alexandra watched him go, her heart swelling with a mix of love and gratitude. For the first time in a long while, she felt a glimmer of hope. As she got up to start her day, she knew that no matter what the townsfolk said, she had someone who saw her for who she truly was. And that made all the difference.

The sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm, golden glow over the small apartment. Alexandra stood in the kitchen, putting the finishing touches on their dinner. The comforting aroma of the food filled the room, a testament to her growing confidence and sense of belonging in this space.
Just as she set the last dish on the table, she heard the door open. She turned to see Alexander stepping inside, looking as handsome as ever in his work uniform. His eyes met hers, and the weariness of the day seemed to melt away, replaced by a smile that made her heart flutter.
“Hey,” he greeted, his voice soft and warm. He walked over to her, wrapping an arm around her waist and pulling her close. “Dinner smells amazing.”
Alexandra smiled, feeling a blush creep up her cheeks. “I’m glad you think so. I wanted to make something special for you.”
He leaned in, brushing his lips against her temple. “Everything you make is special.”
They sat down to eat, their conversation light and filled with laughter. Alexander’s presence was a balm to her soul, and she found herself relaxing, the tension of the past days slowly fading away.
After dinner, they cleaned up together, their movements synchronized and comfortable. Alexandra marveled at how natural it felt, this domestic routine they had fallen into. It was something she had never experienced before, and it filled her with a sense of warmth and security.
As they finished up, Alexander reached out, catching her hand and pulling her close. His eyes twinkled with mischief, and he leaned in, his breath warm against her ear. “You know, you’re looking especially beautiful tonight.”
She blushed, her heart racing. “Oh, am I?”
“Absolutely,” he murmured, his lips brushing against her earlobe. “I think I might have to keep you up all night, just to admire you.”
Her breath hitched, a shiver running down her spine. “Alexander…”
He chuckled, the sound low and sensual. “What? I’m just being honest.”
They made their way to the bedroom, the playful teasing continuing. Alexander’s eyes were filled with a heat that made her pulse quicken. As they entered the room, he pulled her into a deep, lingering kiss, his hands roaming over her back.
He broke the kiss, his lips trailing down her neck, sending shivers through her. “You know, I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of this,” he whispered against her skin.
She smiled, her fingers threading through his hair. “Neither will I.”
Alexander stripped off his shirt, revealing his toned, muscular chest. Alexandra’s eyes widened, her cheeks flushing with heat. He smirked, clearly enjoying her reaction. “Like what you see?”
She nodded, unable to tear her eyes away. “Very much.”
He gently pushed her onto the bed, crawling over her with a predatory grace. His lips found hers again, and the kiss deepened, filled with a raw, unspoken desire. He moved down, kissing her neck and nape, his hands sliding under her shirt to caress her waist.
“Alexander…” she whispered, her voice trembling with emotion.
He paused, his eyes meeting hers. “Yes, my love?”
“Thank you,” she said softly. “For everything.”
He smiled, his expression tender. “Always.”
He continued his gentle exploration, his touch sending sparks of electricity through her. But just as the tension reached a peak, he pulled back slightly, his lips brushing against her ear. “We should get some sleep,” he murmured, his voice filled with a teasing warmth.
She sighed, both relieved and disappointed. “Okay.”
He kissed her forehead, his hands still gently caressing her sides. “Good night, Alexandra.”
“Good night, Alexander.”
They settled into the bed, Alexander’s arms wrapped around her protectively. As she drifted off to sleep, she felt a sense of peace and contentment that she had never known before. And in his embrace, she knew she was exactly where she was meant to be.
