Chapter 16: Luke's Hero Moment
The sun was setting as the bus made its way down the winding mountain road, the sky painted in hues of orange and pink. Nova and Luke were on their way back from another exhausting but successful mission. The bus was filled with tired passengers eager to get home, the air buzzing with quiet conversations and the occasional laughter.
Nova leaned her head against the window, her eyes heavy with fatigue.
"I can't wait to get back and crash," she murmured to Luke, who was sitting beside her.
Luke smiled, though he felt equally worn out. "Yeah, it's been a long day. But we did it, Nova. Another step closer to breaking the curse."
Nova turned to look at him, her eyes softening.
"I couldn't have done it without you, Luke. You know that, right?"
Before Luke could respond, a sudden jolt rocked the bus, causing everyone to lurch in their seats. The bus swerved violently, and panicked shouts filled the air.

"What's happening?" a woman screamed from the back of the bus.
Luke's heart raced as he looked towards the front. The driver was slumped over the wheel, his face pale and contorted in pain. "Oh no, the driver's having a heart attack!"
Nova's eyes widened in horror.
"We have to do something, Luke!"
Without thinking, Luke sprang into action. He pushed his way to the front of the bus, his mind racing. The bus was careening dangerously close to the edge of the mountain road, the drop-off looming ominously on one side.
"Everyone, hold on!" Luke shouted, his voice cutting through the chaos.

He reached the driver's seat and pulled the unconscious man back, struggling to keep the wheel steady.
"Nova, I need you to help me!"
Nova was already there, her hands on the wheel, trying to keep the bus on the road. "I've got it, Luke! You take over driving!"
Luke hesitated for a split second before nodding. He slid into the driver's seat, his hands gripping the wheel tightly.
"Okay, I've got it. Nova, see if you can help the driver."
Nova quickly checked the driver's pulse, her face grim.
"He's alive, but we need to get him to a hospital fast."
Luke's mind raced as he tried to remember everything he knew about driving. He had never driven anything as large as a bus before, but there was no other choice. The road ahead was narrow and winding, and the bus was picking up speed.

"Everyone, please stay calm and hold on!" Luke shouted to the passengers. "We're going to be okay!"
He focused on the road, his hands trembling slightly as he navigated the sharp turns. Nova stood beside him, her hand on his shoulder, her presence a calming force amidst the chaos.
"You can do this, Luke," she said, her voice steady and reassuring. "Just stay focused."
Luke nodded, his eyes fixed on the road. The bus lurched again as he swerved to avoid a large rock in the middle of the road. He could feel the adrenaline coursing through his veins, every muscle in his body tense.

"Nova, check the map and find the nearest hospital," Luke instructed, his voice tight with concentration.
Nova grabbed the map from the dashboard and quickly scanned it. "There's a hospital about ten miles from here. Take the next right and follow the signs."
Luke nodded, his grip on the wheel tightening as he made the turn. The bus tilted precariously, and the passengers let out a collective gasp.
"We're almost there, everyone," Luke called out, trying to keep his voice calm. "Just a little further."
The road seemed to stretch on forever, but finally, they saw the lights of the hospital in the distance. Luke's heart pounded as he navigated the final turns, the bus skidding slightly on the gravel road leading to the emergency entrance.

"We made it!" Nova exclaimed, her voice filled with relief.
Luke brought the bus to a halt, the tires screeching as they came to a stop. "Everyone off the bus! Help is on the way!"
The passengers quickly filed out, their faces a mix of relief and gratitude. Nova and Luke carefully moved the unconscious driver to a stretcher as the paramedics rushed out to meet them.
"He's having a heart attack," Nova explained to the paramedics. "Please, hurry!"
The paramedics nodded, immediately starting their work. Luke watched, his body still trembling from the adrenaline rush. Nova turned to him, her eyes filled with admiration.

As the paramedics wheeled the driver away, the remaining passengers gathered around Luke and Nova, their faces full of gratitude.
