Chapter 20 We can go fall in love more... or maybe just we can go insane.

The sun hung low in the sky, casting a golden hue over the rolling hills as Lucian and Emily walked hand in hand through the cemetery. It had been years since Emily last visited her mother's grave, and the sight of the weathered headstone brought a mix of emotions rushing back. She paused, taking a deep breath, and looked at the grave marker that read, "Margaret Parker – Beloved Mother."
Despite everything, there was a sense of closure in finally standing here, in finally confronting the past she had left behind. Lucian squeezed her hand, offering silent support as she knelt down to place a bouquet of wildflowers on the grave.
"Hi, Mom," Emily began softly, her voice steady despite the tears welling up in her eyes. "It's been a while. I wanted you to know that I'm doing okay. I've built a life for myself, and I have someone who loves me very much."
Lucian knelt beside her, his presence a steadying force. Emily glanced at him, her heart swelling with gratitude and love. She turned back to the grave. "I hope you've found peace. And I hope you know that I've found mine."
They stayed a moment longer, the silence filled with unspoken words and lingering memories. Finally, Emily stood, wiping away a tear. "Ready to go?" she asked Lucian.
He nodded, standing up and taking her hand again. "Whenever you're ready."
As they walked back to the car, Emily felt a sense of lightness she hadn't felt in years. Visiting her mother's grave was the final piece of closure she needed, and now she could truly look forward to the future.
---
Years passed, and Emily and Lucian built a life together that was rich and fulfilling. They bought a beautiful home back in Elmswood, close to the old circus grounds. It felt like coming full circle, returning to the place where their story began.
One sunny afternoon, they found themselves busy tidying up their new house. The furniture had been arranged, the walls adorned with pictures that chronicled their journey together. As Emily dusted a shelf, Lucian came up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist.
"What's on your mind?" he asked, his voice warm and affectionate.
Emily leaned back against him, closing her eyes for a moment. "Just thinking about how far we've come. It's amazing to think about everything that's happened."
Lucian smiled, pressing a kiss to her temple. "We've come a long way, haven't we?"
Emily turned in his arms, looking up at him with a smile. "I wouldn't change a thing."
Lucian's eyes sparkled with something she couldn't quite place. He stepped back, and before she could ask what he was doing, he dropped to one knee, pulling a small velvet box from his pocket.
"Emily," he began, his voice filled with emotion. "From the moment I met you, I knew you were special. You've brought so much joy and light into my life, and I can't imagine a future without you. Will you marry me?"
Emily's breath caught in her throat as she looked down at the ring. It was simple yet elegant, a perfect reflection of their love. Tears filled her eyes as she nodded, unable to find her voice. "Yes," she finally managed to say. "Yes, Lucian, I'll marry you."
Lucian slipped the ring onto her finger, then stood and pulled her into his arms, kissing her deeply. Emily felt a wave of happiness wash over her, knowing that this was the beginning of the next chapter of their lives.
As they stood there, wrapped in each other's embrace, Lucian pulled back slightly, a mischievous glint in his eye. "You know," he said, his voice light with humor, "there were some pretty wild rumors about me when we first met. Some people thought I ate flesh."
Emily laughed, the sound joyous and free. "I remember," she said, her eyes twinkling. "And you let them believe it, didn't you?"
Lucian shrugged, his smile playful. "It added to the mystique. But you saw through it all, didn't you?"
Emily nodded, her smile softening. "I did. I saw the real you."
Lucian kissed her again, his lips gentle and loving. "And now, we're here, together. Ready to start the next adventure."
He took a step back, looking deep into her eyes. "We can go fall in love more... or maybe just we can go insane. Marry me, and we will build a family."
As they stood in their new home, the future stretched out before them, filled with endless possibilities. They had come full circle, returning to the place where their journey began, but this time with a love that was stronger and deeper than ever.
And as they looked forward to the future, they knew that whatever came next, they would face it together, hand in hand, heart to heart.
