Chapter 18: Prison 5.

As I walked back to my table, I couldn't help but feel a sense of relief wash over me. I had taken a huge risk by approaching Jenkins, but it seemed to have paid off. He hadn't acted rogue or furious towards me, instead, he had simply overlooked me entirely. I knew I had to keep pushing forward, no matter how daunting the task may seem.
As the dinner bell rang, I made my way to the serving area. I was assigned to serve food tonight, and I knew this was my chance to get close to Jenkins again. I took a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves as I ladled out the food onto the plates.
As I approached Jenkins' table, my heart began to race. I slipped a piece of paper under his plate, trying not to draw attention to myself. I had written a message on it, a message that I hoped he would understand. "From Hooker," it read. "Pretend to choke after you finish your meal. Overlook your pride and trust me on this."
I walked away, trying to act nonchalant. I knew I had to keep a low profile, at least for now. I watched from afar as Jenkins picked up his plate and began to eat. I could feel my anxiety building, wondering if he would even read the note, let alone follow my instructions.
As Jenkins finished his meal, he looked around cautiously. Then, to my surprise, he started to choke. He clutched at his throat, his face turning red as he struggled to breathe. The other inmates looked on in confusion, some of them laughing and joking. But I knew it was all an act.
I watched as Jenkins stumbled out of the dining hall, his friends following close behind. I knew I had to act fast, before he realized what was really going on. I made my way to the toilet area, my heart racing with anticipation. This was it. This was the moment of truth.
As I entered the toilet area, I saw Jenkins leaning against the sink, his eyes fixed on me. He looked at me with a mixture of anger and confusion, but I could see the hint of understanding in his eyes. He knew that I was trying to help him, even if he didn't know why.
"Listen, Jenkins," I said, trying to keep my voice low. "I know you don't trust me, but you have to trust me on this. The Boss is planning something big, and you're in danger. You have to get out of here, now."
Jenkins looked at me skeptically, but I could see the fear in his eyes. He knew that something was off, and he was willing to listen. I took a deep breath, trying to think of my next move. I knew I had to act fast, before the Boss's plans were set in motion.
Jenkins' eyes narrowed, his gaze piercing as he asked, "Who are you, really?" I took a deep breath, knowing that this was the moment of truth. I had to convince him that I was telling the truth, or risk everything.
"I'm a guy sent to eliminate you," I said, my voice low and even. "But I'm not going to do it. Instead, I'm going to help you escape."
Jenkins' expression changed from skepticism to shock. "What? Why would you do that?"
I hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. But something about Jenkins' desperate situation resonated with me. "I have a younger sister," I said finally. "She's innocent, and she's in danger. The men who sent me to kill you will hurt her if I don't comply. But if I help you escape, I can keep her safe."
Jenkins' eyes widened as he understood the gravity of the situation. "So you're not helping me out of the goodness of your heart," he said. "You're doing it to protect your sister."
I nodded, feeling a pang of guilt. "That's right. I'm not a hero, Jenkins. I'm just a guy trying to protect my family."
Jenkins nodded slowly, his expression determined. "Okay, I understand. So what's the plan?"
I took a deep breath, relieved that Jenkins was on board. "We need to make it look like you're dead," I said. "Can you pretend to be unconscious, or even better, fake your own death?"
Jenkins nodded. "I can do that. But how will we get out of here?"
I thought quickly, trying to come up with a plan. "I'll create a diversion," I said. "While the guards are distracted, you can make a run for it. We'll meet up outside, and I'll help you get out of the prison."
Jenkins nodded, a look of determination on his face. "Let's do it."
"Jenkins, listen to me carefully," I said, trying to sound as convincing as possible. "I'm going to help you escape, but you have to trust me completely. We need to make it look like you're dead, so the guards won't suspect a thing. Can you do that for me?"
Jenkins looked at me skeptically, his eyes narrowing as he tried to read my intentions. I could see the desperation in his eyes, the desire to escape this place overriding any doubts he may have had.
"What do you mean?" he asked finally, his voice low and cautious. "How are we going to make it look like I'm dead?"
I took a deep breath, trying to think of a convincing plan. "We'll need to make it look like you've had some kind of medical emergency," I said. "Maybe a heart attack or a stroke. Something that will convince the guards that you're dead, at least long enough for us to get you out of here."
Jenkins nodded slowly, his eyes never leaving mine. "Okay, I think I understand. But how are we going to make it look realistic?"
I hesitated, trying to think of a way to make this work. "We'll need to get some fake blood, maybe some special effects makeup," I said. "Something that will make it look like you've really had a medical emergency. And then we'll need to get you out of here, without the guards noticing."
Jenkins nodded again, his eyes gleaming with determination. "Okay, I'm ready. Let's do it."
As we started to put our plan into action, I couldn't help but feel a twinge of guilt. I wasn't really helping Jenkins escape, of course. I was just using him to get what I needed. But I pushed that thought aside, focusing on the task at hand.
Inside my head, I was thinking: "You have no idea what's really going on, Jenkins. You think you're escaping, but really you're just playing into my hands. And once you're gone, I'll be the one who's really free."
