Chapter 3: Kidnapped
Chapter 3: Kidnapped
The city was quiet under the cover of night, a stark contrast to the chaos that had enveloped it during the day. The defenders had managed to push back the latest wave of conquerors, but the reprieve was temporary. Astra walked through the makeshift camp, checking on her team and ensuring everyone was settled before heading to her quarters.
Despite the fatigue gnawing at her, sleep eluded her. Her mind was a whirlwind of memories, emotions, and questions. The revelation of her past life with Magnus had left her in turmoil, and she found herself yearning for answers she couldn’t find.
She sighed, stepping out onto the balcony to gaze at the night sky. The stars seemed to offer some solace, their distant light a reminder of the vastness of the universe and the smallness of their troubles. But tonight, even the stars couldn’t calm her racing thoughts.
"Astra," a voice called softly from the shadows.
She spun around, her heart pounding.
"Who’s there?"
From the darkness emerged Magnus, his eyes filled with a mix of determination and sorrow. "It’s me."
Astra’s hand instinctively went to the weapon at her side, but she hesitated.
"Magnus, what are you doing here?"
Magnus stepped closer, his hands raised in a gesture of peace.
"I need to talk to you, Astra. Away from here."
Astra narrowed her eyes.
"We’ve already talked, Magnus. There’s nothing more to say."
Magnus shook his head, his voice pleading. "Please, Astra. There’s so much more we need to understand. I can’t let you go on without remembering everything."
Before Astra could react, Magnus moved with lightning speed, closing the distance between them. He grabbed her arm, his grip firm but not painful.
"I’m sorry," he whispered,
"but this is the only way."
In an instant, Astra felt a sharp sting in her neck as Magnus injected her with a sedative. Her vision blurred, and she struggled to stay conscious.
"Magnus, no…"
"I promise, I’ll keep you safe," Magnus said, his voice the last thing she heard before darkness claimed her.
---
Astra awoke in a dimly lit room, her head throbbing. She tried to move, but found herself restrained. Panic surged through her as she remembered the events leading up to her capture.
"Magnus!" she shouted, her voice echoing off the metal walls.
A door slid open, and Magnus stepped inside, his expression conflicted.
"Astra, you’re awake."
"Let me go, Magnus," she demanded, her eyes blazing with anger.
"This isn’t the way to make me remember."
Magnus sighed, his shoulders slumping.
"I know you’re angry, but I couldn’t think of any other way. You need to understand our past, Astra. It’s the key to everything."
Astra’s voice softened slightly, though her anger remained.
"And kidnapping me was the best solution you could come up with?"
Magnus knelt beside her, his eyes filled with regret.
"I didn’t want to hurt you. I just… I can’t let you go on without knowing the truth."
Astra’s expression softened as she saw the sincerity in his eyes.
"What truth, Magnus? What are you so desperate for me to remember?"
Magnus reached out, gently brushing a strand of hair from her face.
"Our love, Astra. The life we had before all of this. The promises we made to each other."
Astra closed her eyes, trying to summon the memories that had been surfacing since their last encounter.
"I remember bits and pieces. Flashes of moments that feel so real, but also so distant."
Magnus nodded, his voice a whisper. "Then let me help you fill in the gaps."
He reached into a compartment on his arm, retrieving a small device.
"This is a memory enhancer. It’s designed to help restore suppressed memories. Will you let me use it on you?"
Astra hesitated, her trust in Magnus wavering. "How do I know I can trust you?"
Magnus’s eyes met hers, filled with earnestness.
"Because I love you, Astra. And I would never do anything to hurt you."
Astra searched his face for any sign of deceit, but found none. She took a deep breath, nodding slowly.
"Alright, Magnus. I’ll trust you."
Magnus gently placed the device against her temple, activating it with a soft beep. Astra felt a tingling sensation spread through her mind, and suddenly, images and emotions began to flood her consciousness.
---
The memories came in a rush, overwhelming her senses. She saw herself and Magnus, laughing and dancing at their wedding. She felt the warmth of his embrace as they watched the sunset on a beach. She heard the whispered promises of love and devotion that they had exchanged.
Tears streamed down her face as the memories became clearer, more vivid.
"Magnus," she whispered, her voice choked with emotion.
"I remember."
Magnus’s eyes filled with tears as well, his hand gently caressing her cheek.
"Astra, I’m so sorry for everything. I just couldn’t let you go on without knowing the truth."
Astra leaned into his touch, her heart aching with the weight of their shared past.
"It’s not your fault, Magnus. We were both victims of circumstances beyond our control."
Magnus nodded, his voice filled with determination.
"But now that we know the truth, we can fight for our future together. We can end this war and find a way to be free."
Astra looked into his eyes, seeing the love and resolve that mirrored her own.
"Yes, Magnus. We can do this together."
Magnus gently untied her restraints, pulling her into his arms. They held each other tightly, the weight of their past finally lifting from their shoulders.
---
As the hours passed, they talked about their memories, their hopes, and their fears. Astra’s anger had melted away, replaced by a deep understanding and a renewed sense of purpose. They knew that their path would not be easy, but they were ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
"We need to get back to my team," Astra said, her voice steady. "They’ll be worried about me."
Magnus nodded.
"I’ll come with you. We’ll explain everything together."
Astra squeezed his hand, a small smile playing on her lips.
"Thank you, Magnus. For everything."
Magnus returned her smile, his eyes filled with love.
"No, Astra. Thank you for giving us a second chance."
Together, they made their way out of the room and through the base, their steps echoing in the empty halls. As they reached the exit, Magnus turned to Astra, his expression serious.
"Are you ready for this?" he asked.
Astra nodded, her determination unwavering. "Yes, Magnus. Let’s do this."
They stepped outside, the night air cool against their skin. Astra activated her communicator, contacting her team.
"This is Astra. I’m safe and I’m coming back. Prepare to meet me at the rendezvous point."
A voice crackled through the communicator, filled with relief.
"Roger that, Commander. We’ll be there."
Magnus and Astra set off towards the rendezvous point, their hands intertwined. They moved swiftly and silently, their senses alert for any sign of danger. As they neared the meeting place, Astra spotted her team waiting, their weapons at the ready.
"Astra!" one of her team members called out, relief evident in his voice
. "We were so worried."
Astra raised her hand in greeting.
"I’m fine, thanks to Magnus."
The team members exchanged wary glances as Magnus stepped forward.
"I know this is hard to believe, but Magnus is on our side now. We have a shared past, and we’re going to work together to end this war."
There was a moment of silence before one of the team members spoke up.
"If you trust him, Commander, then we’ll follow your lead."
Astra smiled, her heart swelling with gratitude. "Thank you. Let’s get back to base and come up with a plan."
As they made their way back, Astra and Magnus walked side by side, their bond stronger than ever. They knew the road ahead would be difficult, but they were ready to face it together.
---
Back at the defender base, Professor Vincent awaited their return. His eyes widened in surprise and relief as Astra and Magnus entered the command center.
"Astra, Magnus," he said, his voice filled with emotion.
"I’m glad to see you both safe."
Astra nodded, her expression resolute.
"We have a lot to discuss, Professor. Magnus and I remember our past, and we’re ready to fight for our future."
Vincent smiled, his eyes twinkling with pride. "Then let’s get to work. We have a war to end."
As they sat down to plan their next steps, Astra felt a sense of hope and determination she hadn’t felt in a long time. With Magnus by her side, she knew they could overcome any obstacle.
And together, they would build a future where love and peace could finally prevail.Download Novelah App
