Chapter 28: The Last Ride.

Alex stood before the Great Tree, his weary body a testament to the long and brutal battle. The Natural World was finally at peace, the minions of Malakar vanquished. He had fulfilled his duty, and now he sought the wisdom of the Great Tree before relinquishing his powers.
"Great Tree," Alex said, his voice filled with reverence. "I have come to seek your counsel. My task is complete, and I wish to understand the true meaning of my journey."
The Great Tree's branches rustled in the gentle breeze, its ancient eyes shining with wisdom. "Alex, your journey has been one of self-discovery and growth. You have faced darkness and emerged stronger, your heart filled with the light of courage and determination."
Alex nodded, his mind reflecting on the trials he had overcome. "And what of my powers, Great Tree? I feel that my duty is done, and I wish to live a simple life, free from the burdens of magic."
The Great Tree's branches swayed in understanding. "Your powers, Alex... Ah, but that is a conversation for another time. First, you must understand—"
The Great Tree's words trailed off, its branches faltering as a sudden gust of wind swept through the clearing. Alex's eyes widened in surprise as the tree's ancient form began to fade away, its wisdom and secrets disappearing into the whispers of the wind.
"Wait, Great Tree!" Alex called out, his voice echoing through the emptying clearing. "Please, finish your words! I must know—"
But the Great Tree was gone, leaving Alex with only the echoes of their unfinished conversation and whispers of the wind.
Alex stood alone in the clearing, the Great Tree's sudden departure leaving him with more questions than answers. The wind whispers secrets in his ear, but he cannot quite decipher the meaning. One phrase echoes in his mind: "Defeat Erebus, the shadow that has consumed the human world."
Erebus, the name sends a shiver down Alex's spine. He remembers the darkness that lurked in the shadows, the evil that threatened to consume everything. But what does it have to do with the human world?
With a deep breath, Alex sets off towards the unknown. He knows that this will be his greatest challenge yet, but he is determined to see it through. The Great Tree's words still linger in his mind: "Your journey is far from over, Alex. You have one last mission to complete."
As he walks, the landscape changes, and Alex finds himself at the edge of a bustling city. The skyscrapers pierce the sky, and the sounds of humanity fill the air. But something is off, a dark energy lingers, and Alex can feel Erebus's presence.
He knows that this will be a battle like no other, one that will require all his strength, courage, and cunning. But Alex is ready, for he knows that the fate of the human world hangs in the balance.
With a determined stride, Alex steps forward, into the unknown, ready to face whatever lies ahead.
Alex's hand instinctively grasped for the pendant, but it was gone. The small, intricately carved stone that had allowed him to travel between worlds had vanished into thin air. He felt a pang of panic, realizing he was now stranded in the human world.
The Great Tree's words echoed in his mind: "You can't give up all your powers at once, Alex. But you will be losing them, little by little." He had thought the Great Tree meant he would gradually surrender his powers by choice, not that they would be taken from him without warning.
Alex's sense of security and control began to crumble. He had grown accustomed to the pendant's power and felt lost without it. How would he complete his mission to defeat Erebus now?
As he stood there, feeling helpless, Alex realized that the Great Tree's message was clear: he must adapt and find new ways to overcome challenges. The pendant's disappearance was only the beginning of his journey's next phase.
With a deep breath, Alex steeled himself and set off into the unknown, ready to face whatever lay ahead.
Alex's determination began to waver as the harsh reality set in. Without his powers, his chances of defeating Erebus were slim to none. He had witnessed Erebus's strength firsthand, and the memory sent a shiver down his spine.
How could he possibly hope to defeat such a formidable foe without the aid of his magic? The Great Tree's plan seemed cruel and unfair, stripping him of his abilities when he needed them most.
Alex felt a sense of desperation creeping in, his mind racing with thoughts of failure and defeat. He had come so far, overcome so many obstacles, only to be left vulnerable and powerless when it mattered most.
The weight of his responsibility bore down on him, the fate of the human world hanging precariously in the balance. Alex knew he couldn't give up, but his confidence was dwindling, replaced by a growing sense of doubt.
Would he find a way to overcome this seemingly insurmountable challenge, or would Erebus prove to be his ultimate downfall?.
