Chapter 24: Asher.

My Mom solved the puzzle without stressing it, just sat in a position and just crack a pattern we've been stressing for sometime now, I couldn't believe it was Something that have been before us and so simple, yet none of us could crack it.
Getting to the school, with all my classmates around, I called to their attention to share what information I have gotten from my Mom. They was feeling really bad because of Amelia, I was too, but truth be told, I was grateful that I wasn't picked up, as well as my remaining friends, but is it going to last?, I don't know.
This News is bad, like really bad for those whose turn are around the corner, it's a progress for us as a whole, but lastly, all I know is the pattern, not the solution, for those involved, I believe they'll be able to provide more opinion towards the solution than those who's possibly still far behind, if only Death wouldn't change her pattern again.
“ Not Many of you'll accept this as a great News, because you don't have enough time to spare.... But I am going to say it, if we possibly find any sort of solution towards this on time, then you can still be saved..... Looking from the situation at hand, it turns out that Death has been taking her victims through alphabetical order, she took Adam one of my friends, before Adrian followed suit, Anthony was next, now Amelia, so if we're correct, then......”
“ No way, no way it's going to be me!... please can someone prove him wrong?, Can someone bring up something?, anything?.... anything at all that can counter his idea?.....”
Asher was in tears, wanting someone to bring up something, but no, everyone was just seated, eyes looking down because there was nothing to do, nothing to say, nothing to counter the idea I've got.
“ Please!....”
He pressed, there's nothing we can do or say about this, he's tonight's victim, there's no chance at all for escape because he's the last one in here his name starts with the letter A. He fell back to his seat, legs shaking like his body weighs too much for his legs to carry. With face bent down on his table before him, he began to cry, crying out like a baby, crying out like he has lost it all, his tears are breaking my heart, these were the people I never cared for before, but now, they're more like family to me, and I care about my family.
I went up to him, hands placed on the center of his back, rubbing it with my hand, trying to console him, he can't stop crying, the more I try to calm him down, the more it hurts, but I can't just walk away, he really needs me right now, he needs us, he needs our support.
After it was noon and no one is showing any sign of willing to go home, Asher woke up from sleep, he cried himself to sleep, now he's looking more bright, brighter to the point you know that it's not normal, something was off, obviously, he was depressed.
He started singing a song, trying to make himself happy, gently walking around the classroom alone while everyone of us sat down there, our attention off him because we know he's the one struggling here, struggling with the fate he was to face, struggling with the reality fast approaching towards him.
Just like magic or something, we all got ourselves involved with his song, singing with him, having fun together, probably forgetting what the future holds as we all were jumping on top of the seats and tables, singing songs, each one of us bringing one up at a time. Since we all know the fate before us, why should we still stay moody?, I believe Asher here is right, why should we worry?.
When it's about time for the deed to be carried out, Death was standing in her normal posture, face down, as well as her hair, hands falling free my her side and her feet together, still putting on our school uniform as always, she was just there, waiting for her moments.
“ Happy Death Day.....”
She said to Asher, pointing at him, his chains breaking free, he just stood up and followed her, keeping a straight face, he wasn't pleading, showing no sign of weakness. Everyone of us was looking at him, admiring his courage, he wasn't even flinching, not flinching in the face of death, keeping a strong face for one who's about to be eliminated.
Death turned to him, bringing her face up, looking at Asher who has that poker face like he was just ready, Death was just standing there, looking at him, she wasn't putting on any surprise face because her face was emotionless too, but I can tell that she was taken aback by the courageous look on Asher's face, he wasn't even pleading to her like the others do, not giving Death the happiness she feeds on.
Death slapped his face, now looking pissed off at Asher's bravery, Asher couldn't possibly do anything, like they all were always bewitched not to attack Death, he just smiled at her face because of the slap, Death was looking pissed off as each seconds pass, they stood just by the front of the door for close to a full minute before she forced Asher into that room, locking the door, locking us away from what's happening in there.
The sound of the victim screaming is something we couldn't get used to, Asher's scream felt like a stab to my heart, his voice echoing in my ear, making me really uncomfortable and feeling pity for him.
The strong face Asher showed Death before his death will always hunt her, she's been hunting us, now Asher's look to her face will always hunt her back, even when she came out, blood all over her, she was still looking back at the door she came out from, chest rising in anger before she started slashing the door with the machete she was holding, wearing her anger in her sleeves, Asher really did leave a huge scar Death can never forget.
