Chapter 18 True Colors

“Bryle!” His dad angrily calls out but he just raises an eyebrow at the old man.
Oh my gosh! He’s so brave. He doesn’t feel frightened of the threat that would possibly come out of his dad’s mouth. He’s obviously immune to it.
“Calm down, dear. He’s just joking,” the old man says to the woman.
I see the woman’s face calmed down a little because of what the old man has said.
“No, I’m not joking. We are here and Alwin is here because you want to clear everything out, right? I think it’s time for you all to know the truth. Nika can stay here if she wants to, for all I care.”
“Son...” his mom calls out to him but he just shakes his head disapprovingly.
Seems like his mom really doesn’t have any problem with his decisions in life and is very supportive of him instead. His dad is the only villain of his life.
“Nika, I don’t want to lead you on to marrying me because I don’t love you and I have a boyfriend too, to begin with,” Bryle prankly says to this Nika woman.
Ah! So she’s the woman Bryle supposed to marry! Why doesn’t he want to get married to Nika if she’s this beautiful? They suit each other very well. Oh well, he told me that he doesn’t want to get married to a woman he doesn’t love.
Nika starts to tear up. She’s obviously hurt of what Bryle said, though I don’t know which part of Bryle’s words hurt her. Maybe everything? Bryle’s mom stands up and walks up to her, who is now crying, to comfort her. She pulls her down to sit on the vacant chair beside her.
“Alwin and I, we’ve been dating for four months now though we’ve known each other for six months already. I’ve always wanted to introduce Alwin to you but I never told you anything because I know that you are against it. But now... I can’t take it anymore. You want me to marry someone that I don’t love! You want me to be in a relationship that I don’t even want in the first place.”
“It’s because I knew you will learn to love Nika someday if you are already a family!”
“Maybe! Maybe I will! But as I’ve told you, I already have someone in my life and that someone is Alwin! I love him!”
I grab ahold of Bryle’s hand to calm him down. I know that the words he has spewed to his parents were lies but the anger he’s radiating is clearly real. Nika girl stares at our intertwining hands before looking at me menacingly.
“You piece of—”
“Sunny, stop!” Bryle’s mom stops his husband, “Let’s hear out what our son has to say to us.”
Her husband looks at her in confusion. “Shine—”
“No! I want to hear what my son has to say!” The wife says with finality in her voice so her husband shuts up.
I see how Bryle looks at his mom with grateful eyes before changing back into a stoic one. His mom is literally kind and understanding.
“Go ahead, son. I want to hear what you wanna say.”
Bryle nods at his mom before talking, “Look, if this was before, I would probably agree to this stupid fix marriage you’ve set me up. But now, right now, I have someone I love. If I don’t love him enough, then I would have agreed to that arrangement even though I’m in a relationship with him.”
The words coming out from his mouth are very convincing. If I wasn’t part of this, I literally would’ve believed him. I glance at his so-called fiancé and see beads of tears flowing down her cheeks in a rapid manner. I feel pity for her but my parents are more pitiful if I didn’t agree to this.
I wrap my arms around Bryle’s arm to make them see that I care for Bryle as his lover.
“Go on, honey. Care to tell us how you two met?”
“Okay, that’s it! I know they’re just making this up so he won’t get married to me! I know your just lying because you don’t love me!” Nika accuses.
I go pale because of what she said. The people inside the restaurant are now looking our way again due to her loud voice.
“Nika, calm down...” Bryle’s mom tries to calm her down but she just shakes her head and then stands up from her seat.
“No! I won’t let this go that easily, Bryle! I won’t forgive you for doing this to me and you too, old hogs! You aren’t doing anything to stop this! You are letting him! I will tell this to dad and your company will go down the drain, I swear!” She threatens Bryle’s parents.
Oh my! This woman is so evil. She doesn’t even have any respect to the elders! At first she acted like an angel just to make Bryle’s parents agree to her wishes but now that she knows that there’s no wedding gonna happen between them, her true color starts showing up, which is literally black.
Why are there a people like that? Pretentious. They cover their true manner and as the time goes by, it slowly starts to show up. Their like a fay — changing appearance so that people wouldn’t see their true looks.
My eyes widen when she looks at me morbidly. “You! I’ll make sure that your life will go to hell! I will make you regret why you even dared to be in a relationship with Bryle!”
“Stop it, Nika! Stop it! You don’t have the rights to threat my boyfriend!” Bryle angrily says to Nika and stands up from his seat too so I also did. He might punch her because of the anger his currently feeling right now.
Even though I also feel angry at her and I want Bryle to slap her to make her wake up from her fantasies and make her realize that this is real — everything’s real — I still have to prevent hurting her because she’s a lady and doesn’t have a fight if Bryle really wanted to hurt her.
It’s starting to become chaos inside the restaurant because of their booming voice. The others start to take out their phone from their pocket just to record us. Shame is also obvious on the old man’s face again.
“No, I won’t! I bet, you only got him from some kind of a cheap bar! I mean, look at him! Just look at him! He looks like he came from a mud! Tattered jeans, dirty shoes, and a waiter?! Did you even hear what you’ve said? Or you’re just blind?”
The words she spewed about me were so scathing. She’s belittling my whole being. So what if I’m just poor? At least I have a respect to others. Not like her, rich but no class.
I feel like stopping this madness but I keep remembering my mom and dad. If I stopped, where would I get the money for the maintenance their taking? And I’ll also have a very huge amount of debt to Bryle.
Even though I want to say something and defend myself, I didn’t do. I don’t want to have a bad first impression to Bryle’s parents just because I talked back to a lady.
I feel Bryle’s arms around me and I just realized that there’s a tear escaping my eyes. He’s hugging me so I drown my face on his chest.
“If I was blind, I should’ve chose to marry you!” Bryle snarls at Nika.
I hear her gasps. Maybe she was taken aback of what Bryle has said. Who wouldn’t get hurt if the person you like would tell you that only the blind would love you? That was harsh and piercing.
“I hate you!” Nika shouts and I hear the clicking of her stilettos fading away.
Finally, the witch is gone. She’s so painful to the ears. She’s like a banshee who got deprived of food from her fellow banshee. Her wealth and beauty is so wasted because she’s using it the wrong way.
