Chapter 8: The Unseen World

Chapter 8: The Unseen World
As the trio ventured into the closed mall for their midnight exploration, Cholo, seeking to ease the tension, decided to inject some light-heartedness through harmless pranks. With a mischievous gleam in his eyes, he set out to create moments of laughter within the dimly lit corridors.
Agnes looked intrigued, questioning,
"Pranks? During a ghost hunt?"
Cholo chuckled,
"Why not? Laughter is the best medicine, even in haunted malls. Just watch and enjoy."
Deeper into the mall, Cholo discreetly arranged items to startle his friends – a strategically placed mannequin here, a sudden flicker of lights there. His aim was to maintain a lighthearted atmosphere.
"Alright, let's break the tension a bit. I've got a few pranks up my sleeve," Cholo announced.
Agnes sighed playfully,
"Cholo, if you end up scaring me more than the ghosts, I won't forgive you."
Their footsteps echoed through the empty halls as they continued the exploration. A mannequin positioned behind a clothing rack caught Agnes's attention.
Cholo grinned, revealing his prank,
"Gotcha, Agnes! Just a mannequin."
As they proceeded, Cholo's pranks became increasingly creative – a toy spider here, a sudden burst of confetti there. He aimed to inject humor into their ghostly adventure.
Eric, observing Cholo's antics, remarked,
"I didn't expect a ghost hunt to turn into a comedy show."
Cholo responded with a smile,
"Well, sometimes you need laughter to balance out the spookiness."
However, as they delved deeper into the mall's shadows, the line between humor and genuine fear began to blur. Cholo, aiming to surprise his friends with a sudden sound effect, triggered a loud crash from a nearby corridor.
"Cholo, seriously! What was that?" Agnes exclaimed, visibly startled.
Cholo, realizing the unintended intensity of the prank, apologized,
"Oops, that wasn't part of the plan. Just a little technical glitch."
Despite playful mocking, an underlying tension lingered. The closed mall, shrouded in darkness, held an atmosphere that even the trio's camaraderie struggled to dispel entirely.
"Okay, Cholo, enough with the pranks. Let's focus on finding answers," Agnes suggested, glancing around cautiously.
Cholo nodded, recognizing the shift in the group's mood.
"You're right, Agnes. Let's stay vigilant."
However, as they turned a corner, a sudden movement caught their attention – a shadowy figure at the end of the corridor.
"Who's there?" Eric questioned, alert.
The figure, revealed to be another one of Cholo's pranks – a life-sized cutout of a horror movie character – brought mixed reactions.
"Cholo, really? A cutout? You almost gave us a heart attack," Agnes rolled her eyes.
Cholo, trying to salvage the humor, quipped,
"Well, I thought a little jump scare would add excitement."
As they continued their exploration, each unexpected sound or movement kept them on edge. The line between Cholo's pranks and potential supernatural encounters blurred in the dimly lit corridors.
"Okay, no more pranks. Let's focus on the investigation," Cholo declared.
However, as the trio approached the mall's central atrium, a loud crash echoed through the vast space.
"Cholo, that better not be another prank," Agnes tensely stated.
Cholo, genuinely surprised, responded,
"I swear, that wasn't me."
The group cautiously approached the source of the sound, discovering a toppled display of mannequins.
"This wasn't here before. Did something knock these over?" Eric questioned.
Agnes, scanning the area, added,
"Cholo, this isn't one of your pranks, right?"
Cholo, looking genuinely perplexed, shook his head, "I promise, I had nothing to do with this."
The realization sank in – the trio might not be alone in the closed mall, and the presence they felt wasn't just a result of Cholo's mischievous pranks.
"We need to be careful. There might be something else in here with us," Agnes warned.
As they proceeded with heightened caution, the closed mall transformed from a stage for pranks to a setting for genuine suspense. The trio, once united in laughter, now faced the uncertainty of what awaited them in the dark corners of the haunted mall.
Jonas led Agnes, Cholo, and Eric to a secluded spot within the mall, away from prying eyes and curious onlookers. The trio, still grappling with the recent revelations about the food court's dark secrets, looked at Jonas with a mix of anticipation and trepidation.
Jonas, his expression serious, began to unveil the mysteries that lingered in the unseen corners of the famous food court.
Jonas explained, "Before we dive into the unknown, you need to understand that what I'm about to share may sound unbelievable. But it's the truth, and I've witnessed it more times than I can count."
Agnes, Cholo, and Eric exchanged glances, uncertain of what to expect.
Jonas said, "When the food court first started gaining popularity, I noticed something strange. Ghosts – they started appearing alongside the customers as they enjoyed their meals."
Agnes, intrigued, asked, "Ghosts? You mean like spirits?"
Jonas nodded solemnly. "Exactly. They sit beside people, and most of the time, customers are completely unaware. It's like they're sharing the dining space with the living."
Cholo, adjusting his camera, questioned,
"How did this all begin? Why are there ghosts in the food court?"
Jonas took a deep breath before delving into the unsettling history.
Jonas explained,
"When the food court struggled initially, the stall owners were desperate to boost sales. They made a pact – a deal with something dark. I don't know the specifics, but it changed everything. Suddenly, the food court became famous, but with a cost."
Agnes, absorbing the gravity of Jonas's words, inquired, "What cost? What did they agree to?"
Jonas explained, "They unknowingly opened a gateway to the spirit world. Now, these ghosts are tethered to the food court, seeking solace or perhaps something more. They're here, Agnes, every day, sitting beside the unsuspecting customers."
Eric, recalling his own strange encounters during night patrols, remarked, "I've felt something eerie during my shifts, but I never imagined it was tied to ghosts in the food court."
Jonas said, "It gets stranger. These ghosts aren't malevolent. They seem to be reliving moments from their past. Joyful occasions, family gatherings – it's as if they're trying to find comfort in the presence of the living."
Cholo said, "So, customers are surrounded by spirits, and they don't even know it?"
Jonas nodded solemnly.
"Yes, Cholo. And the stall owners? They either don't see them or choose to ignore it. They're fixated on the success and fame the food court has brought them."
Agnes, contemplating the revelation, murmured,
"This is both heartbreaking and disturbing. Innocent people enjoying a meal, unaware that they're sharing the space with entities from another realm."
Jonas said,  "Exactly. And that's not the worst part. Sometimes, these ghosts get agitated. They become restless and start influencing the living in subtle ways. It's like a disturbance in the balance between our world and theirs."
Agnes, her curiosity piqued, asked,
"Influencing how?"
Jonas shared a chilling example, "There have been instances where customers suddenly change their orders. They might have intended to order something, but under the ghostly influence, they end up choosing a completely different dish."
Cholo, capturing every word on camera, remarked,
"That's bizarre. How does that even happen?"
Jonas said, "The spirits seem to have a subtle impact on people's thoughts. It's like a nudge, guiding them to make choices they hadn't initially considered."
As they absorbed the eerie revelations, Jonas continued, "I've tried talking to the stall owners, warning them about the unseen world they've invited into their business. But they dismiss it, thinking it's just a side effect of their success."
Agnes, determined, said,
"We can't let this continue. People deserve to know what's happening in that food court, even if it means exposing the existence of ghosts."
Jonas, appreciating Agnes's resolve, nodded.
"I've been waiting for someone willing to stand up against this. But be cautious; the spirits may not take kindly to interference."
The group, now armed with knowledge of the unseen world within the food court, prepared to confront the ghosts and unveil the truth to the unsuspecting customers. Little did they know that their journey would lead them to even darker revelations, challenging their beliefs and pushing them further into the heart of the paranormal mysteries that surrounded the famous food court.
