Chapter 12 Midnight Revelations

The moon hangs in the night sky as Jenny and Clint walk through the quiet neighborhood. The atmosphere is a mix of playful banter and comfortable silence.
Jenny, laughing, says, "Well, that jogger sure knows how to make an entrance. I felt like a bowling pin there for a moment."
Clint grins, "Good thing I have quick reflexes. Wouldn't want my business partner to get knocked around."
Jenny nudges him, "Business partner, huh? That's the first time you've called me that today. Should I be flattered?"
Clint smirks, "Consider it a promotion. From girlfriend to business partner. Quite the upgrade."
They continue walking, hands intertwined, the city sounds fading into the background. Clint breaks the silence, "So, your mom... she seemed quite concerned about our 'business.'"
Jenny chuckles, "Oh, you have no idea. She's convinced we're on the express train to marriage town."
Clint raises an eyebrow, "Express train, huh? I thought I was more of a slow-burn romance kind of guy."
Jenny playfully nudges him again, "Well, I did tell her we're not getting married. And if we did, she thinks we'd divorce in two months."
Clint smirks, "Divorce isn't in my vocabulary. I'm a one-woman kind of guy."
Jenny teases, "Really? Because 'divorce' is in a lot of people's vocabularies. Especially those with prenuptial agreements."
Clint shakes his head, "No prenups for me. I'm not planning on divorcing anyone. Ever."
Jenny raises an eyebrow, "Bold statement. I'll hold you to that."
They walk in companionable silence for a while until Jenny breaks it, "You know, you're surprisingly good at this boyfriend thing."
Clint smirks, "Surprisingly? Are you saying you didn't have high expectations?"
Jenny grins, "I'm saying you're exceeding them. You've got this protective vibe going on. Catching me from falling and all."
Clint winks, "What can I say? I'm a multitasker. Businessman, boyfriend, and expert jogger-avoider."
Jenny laughs, "Expert jogger-avoider, indeed. Maybe I should get you a cape."
Clint grins, "I'd wear it with pride. Super Clint to the rescue."
They share a laugh as they approach a park bench. Clint gestures for Jenny to sit, and they enjoy the serene night.
Clint glances at Jenny, "You know, we're not really discussing the terms of our 'business' relationship. I might need to renegotiate for that cape."
Jenny raises an eyebrow, "Cape negotiations already? You're a tough businessman."
Clint leans in, "Tough, but fair. And I have one more demand in this negotiation process."
Jenny smirks, "Oh? What's that?"
Clint grins, "A contract extension. No more two-month deadlines."
Jenny feigns shock, "An extension? Are you trying to lock me in for the long term?"
Clint smirks, "Maybe I am. You're not trying to escape, are you?"
Jenny leans in, "Escape? Not a chance. Looks like Super Clint has me hooked."
They share a tender moment, the moonlight casting a soft glow around them. The playful banter fades, replaced by the unspoken connection between them.
As they sit on that park bench, the city's heartbeat echoing around them, Clint and Jenny find comfort in the simple joy of being together, navigating the complexities of their unique relationship.
Jenny finds herself in a tricky situation as Clint insists on staying for the dance competition at her school. She tries to keep him at bay, whispering, "Look, Clint, this is a school event. We can't have you, a chaebol, as the center of attention here."
Chuckling, Clint replies, "Relax, Jenny. I'm just here to watch. You're the star today."
As the competition progresses, Clint can't help but notice the dedication and passion in Jenny's eyes as she supports her students. There's a side of her that he hasn't seen before — a caring and nurturing Jenny that makes him reconsider the boundaries of their "business" relationship.
After the event, Jenny sighs in relief, "Well, that's over. I hope you enjoyed the show, Clint."
Clint grins, "It was quite a spectacle, especially with you in charge. But, you know, you're not so bad as a teacher."
Jenny smirks, "Flattery won't get you anywhere, Clint."
As they walk out of the school, Clint says, "I never knew you had such a soft spot for your students. It's kinda cute."
Jenny blushes, "Well, they're like my second family. I want the best for them."
Clint raises an eyebrow, "Could it be that you're softening up, Jenny?"
Rolling her eyes, she retorts, "Don't get ahead of yourself, Clint. This changes nothing."
However, deep down, both of them are starting to sense a shift in their dynamic.
The next day, back at the hotel, Clint is engrossed in a meeting when his phone rings. It's Jenny. He steps out to take the call, "What's up, Jenny?"
Jenny sounds a bit flustered, "Clint, I need a favor. Could you, um, accompany me to a family gathering? My mom wants to meet you."
Clint smirks, "Well, well, Jenny. Looks like our little charade is getting serious."
Jenny groans, "It's not like that, Clint. I just need you to play along for a while."
Clint, enjoying her discomfort, replies, "Sure, why not? I'm curious to see your family dynamics."
Jenny sighs, "Thanks, Clint. I owe you one."
As they hang up, Clint can't help but feel a twinge of excitement. Meeting Jenny's family could be the key to unraveling more about her and, perhaps, about himself.
Sitting on the seesaw at the children’s playground outside, Clint comments that the location is great and jokes that it’d be perfect to build a resort here. Jenny tells him not to even dream of touching this land, and he gets up suddenly in response, causing her side of the seesaw to fall abruptly.
Clint grabs her hand and leads her over to the swings, commenting that Jenny should like this, since she likes doing whatever kids do. They swing back and forth for a while, just chatting, when Jenny gets the idea to playfully push Clint’s swing a little higher.
He gets up, and she starts running from him, and they get into a cute game of catch-me-if-you-can. As Jenny climbs up the jungle gym, Clint traps her between the bars so that she’s sitting down and facing him.
He leans forward slowly and grins, grabbing her chin before moving in to plant a kiss on her lips. As Jenny gradually registers the kiss, she eases into it, and they stay that way for a bit before Clint pulls back. Clint just beams at her as he continues to stroke her cheek, and Jenny smiles back shyly.
Clint brings Jenny back to her house and makes sure that she’s the one coming to him next time. He jokes that she can come to the hotel too (cue the wolf howl sound effect), and she groans at his sense of humor.
As Jenny turns to go inside, Clint suddenly grabs her arm and yanks her back. He asks if she locked her door before leaving, and she notices that her door’s been left ajar. She gasps and shuffles behind Clint for protection.
He tells her to stay where she is, and as soon as he steps inside the house, his eyes widen in alarm. Jenny’s things lay strewn across the floor, and it’s clear that someone has ransacked her house while she was gone for the day.
Stuttering that there must have been a thief, Jenny nearly falls over from the shock, but Clint catches her and asks if she’s all right. He tells her that it’s fine as long as no one got hurt, and suggests that she stay at his place for the night, since she probably won’t be able to sleep soundly in her own apartment.
When they arrive at Clint’s house, Jenny comments that it looks so empty, and he just responds that he doesn’t like clutter. He reassures her that his house is safe so she can rest easy, and Jenny nods in gratitude.
In his room, Clint makes a call, highlighting his suspicions about the burglary. He admits that there was nothing expensive enough for someone to go through the trouble of burglarizing, but still thinks it’s strange that so many things were left untouched. He adds that the police dropped by and asks for a more thorough investigation.
Wandering around Clint’s house, Jenny walks over to his room, catching him right as he’s taking off his shirt. The bag that she had been carrying drops to her feet, and she goes wide-eyed, immediately running away at the sight of his shirtless torso. Clint laughs and remarks that she’s sure putting up an innocent act.
Downstairs in the living room, Jenny fans herself in embarrassment. When Clint comes down to offer her a change of clothes, she asks if he’s planning to go back to the hotel to do his work.
Clint says that he thought she’d feel better having him around rather than staying in by herself. He adds that his house is big and there aren’t any bad guys around, so she doesn’t have to worry. Pointing a not-so-subtle finger at Clint, Jenny asks hesitatingly if he’s sure that there are no bad guys around. Ha.
Clint pulls her finger forward so that he draws her towards him. Jenny makes sure to tell him that she didn’t see anything earlier, and he just laughs, replying that he never said anything about it.
In Clint’s bedroom, Jenny asks if the plan is for them to sleep together on his bed tonight. Asking if she’s saying that they can’t, he grabs her by the waist and gazes into her eyes.
Jenny looks around nervously and says that to be honest, she’s a little tempted right now, but she doesn’t think she can do it. She thinks that one of them will probably regret it tomorrow morning, and Clint just tells her that he definitely won’t be the one who regrets it. Nevertheless, he tells her that he respects her opinion, and asks her to go sleep first.
As Clint is working away, Jenny wanders down to the kitchen and opens the fridge. She beams in delight when she sees that the brand of alcohol is called Dada, noting that it shares a name with her.
Later in the night, Jenny is drunkenly playing with Clint’s Jenga blocks, mumbling that he can do his hotel-related work while she builds her own “hotel.” The Jenga blocks come crumbling down as Clint joins her in the living room, and he tells her that she should’ve called him over since he’s an expert at this game.
He complains that she started drinking without him, and she offers him her opened bottle. They note that it’s raining outside again, and Jenny tells him that it seems to be more than just a brief shower this time.
