Chapter 19

"Cleo, something I admire about you is your determination. It's one of the many things I didn't possess. After that night, what you said made me realize that I couldn't continue sulking around. So thank you for doing that. thank you." She thanked him again. Quickly before Cleo could say 'you're welcome', she gave him a small kiss on his cheek. In the back, Azumi shifted her stance when she witnessed Ashley's action.
Cleo's face was all kinds of red as she bid farewell to him and walked over to the gate where Harvey passed through. She went by B4 and besides pausing slightly at them, nodded and continued walking ahead without acknowledging them further.
Azumi couldn't take this sudden chain of events. "Ashley, stop!" She yelled out. Ashley turned and looked to Azumi, eyes questioning. "Are you really leaving?"
"Yes." Ashley simply answered.
"But why?" Azumi demanded loudly. "Why didn't you talk to all of us about it first?"
"I'm sorry, Azumi." Ashley quietly apologized. She looked a bit guilty as she turned back around to leave.
Azumi ran up and grabbed her arm to turn her around. She had desperation in her voice as she spoke. "Haven't we been through so much together? It's been so long, more than half our lives. Why do you want to leave us so suddenly?"
"Ano, about the last time..." Ashley said, trying to mention the incident at the party.
"I was being irrational. I'm sorry. It doesn't matter any more!" Azumi swiped the thought away from her memory. "Do you... really want to go?" Her eyes suddenly watered but she tried hiding it by talking louder and faster. "Stop playing games with us, Ashley. If you leave we won't have you around with us. I won't have my best friend around..."
Ashley smiled, appreciating the effort Azumi was making for her to stay. But she made her choice. "Please take care, Azumi." She bid simply.
Tears were falling freely now in little droplets down Azumi's cheeks. She wanted her friend to stay but truthfully she knew how much Ashley cared about Harvey. She nodded and returned a smile, knowing that Ashley would not give up on him. "If... anyone ever decides to mess with you in America, tell me immediately." She said. "All three of us will fly there. Got it?"
Ashley nodded happily. "Thank you. I'll be going now." She bowed one last time and left their presence.
Cleo went outside after she left to see her plane take off. It wasn't too long until he spotted B4 make their way outside and stand a few feet away from him to watch Ashley's plane make its ascent also. The plane took off quickly and Cleo waved goodbye silently.
"Goodbye, Ashley! Good luck! Do you your best!" Azumi yelled out loudly as if Ashley could hear from inside the plane.
"After seeing her actually capable of compassion when she said her farewell to Ashley, my opinion of her has slightly changed." Cleo told Luke about Azumi that day at work. "She's not all devil inside." He admitted.
"It sounds like Ashley and Azumi have a good bond." Luke commented. Cleo nodded in agreement.
"Hmm, those that seem cruel actually have a kind heart. For some reason they can't let others see their lonely selves so they constantly hide it." Martin said as he lay in his lawn chair. Cleo and Luke looked at him with confusion since they thought he was dozing off in the lawn chair while they were talking.
"Dear Ashley... How is... America?" Azumi was at her home, sitting down at a desk and actually writing a letter to Ashley. She read out loud what she wrote on paper. After thinking about the kiss Ashley gave Cleo at the airport, Azumi couldn't help but add, "Do you like Cleo Montenegro?"
"What are u writing?" Andrew asked curiously as he appeared behind her. Azumi yelped in surprise at his sudden intrusion and used her hands to cover the letter from his view.
"Is that a love letter?" Andrew questioned with glee.
"No! Of course not! Why do you always barge in at the wrong time?" Azumi spat out to him, still covering the letter.
He ignored her question and was able to grab the paper from beneath her hands swiftly. "Aw, it's not." He said after he scanned it, disappointed at the content. "Oh, it's a letter to Ashley."
Azumi grabbed the paper back from him. "Yeah. So what?"
"Well maybe I should write it for you since your print is so sloppy." Andrew offered after seeing her chicken scratch han character
She scoffed at his offer. "How can I convey my true thoughts and feelings if you're writing it?"
Andrew shrugged then took a seat on the couch adjacent to the table. "Why are you writing a letter to her in the first place?"
"Ashley went to America to chase after Harvey and ended up leaving her friends as a result." Azumi answered with a slight tone of distaste toward the end.
Cleo placed a hand over his heart at this and sighed. "Ah, when you're in love you do crazy things."
Azumi looked at him like he was the crazy one. "You'll understand when you're in love." He explained.
A slight blush crept up to her face after he spoke. Andrew thought that maybe Ichigo was the cause of Azumi's reaction to his comment. He decided to continue. "But until then you must treasure the person you like. Don't rush head on into things. Most importantly, you cannot buy a person's love with money. In order to receive love, you must give your love back."
For a few seconds, Andrew observed Azumi's expression as she took in his advice. A smile slowly spread across her face and she jumped up as if she had a sudden idea. "I got it!" He was almost startled by her suddenness as she went over and sat next to him on the couch.
"Lord Andrew, you're great, really. Thanks for telling me." Azumi punched him playfully on the arm but the impact was harder than she intended it to be. The pain shot up his arm and Andrew held it in agony.
"You're welcome." He croaked out.
"You're leaving up north tomorrow aren't you?" She asked. He nodded his head. It would just be a two week business trip to cebu. "Well when you return, come back safely." She smiled again. She couldn't believe what she just thought up. "What a wonderful suggestion you gave me! I promise that when you come back, I'll have something for you to see." She went back to her seat at the table but instead of continuing her letter to Ashley, she scribbled a list on another sheet of paper.
Seeing Azumi pumped up and enthusiastic, Andrew felt a bit concerned leaving her like in this state. But whatever she planned to do, he'd have to take responsibility for giving her the idea. And just maybe it would rile up Cameron. Andrew smiled at the thought.
