Chapter 6: Tension at the Campus Festival
Chapter 6: Tension at the Campus Festival
A bright, sunny day on campus found Marigold in the quad, engrossed in a book. It was one of those rare moments when she had some free time to enjoy the outdoors. As she turned the page, a familiar voice called her name.
"Marigold!" Bruno's voice carried through the air, and she looked up to see him approaching with a wide grin.
"Hey, Bruno," Marigold greeted, her own smile matching his. Their friendship had evolved, and they had become genuine friends despite their initial rivalry.
As Bruno reached her, he opened his arms in a friendly gesture. "How's my favorite environmental science major doing?"
Marigold blinked in surprise. "Bruno, are you... hugging me?"
Bruno laughed, his arms still open. "Is that a problem?"
Marigold couldn't help but chuckle and accepted his friendly hug. It was a warm and comforting embrace that spoke of the genuine bond they had formed. However, what neither of them realized was that they had an unexpected audience.
Across the quad, Clover had been watching the scene unfold, his face a mixture of shock and jealousy. His gangster persona had crumbled, leaving him looking more like a lovesick puppy than a feared leader.
He muttered to himself, "What is Bruno doing, hugging Marigold? I can't believe this."
Clover's right-hand man, Jasper, couldn't help but chuckle at the sight. "Boss, are you turning green with jealousy?"
Clover shot him an irritated look. "No, I'm not! I just... it's just ridiculous."
Back at the hug, Marigold and Bruno finally pulled away. "What's that for, Bruno?" Marigold asked with a smirk.
Bruno shrugged, his tone light. "I just felt like it, you know. It's a beautiful day, and we're friends. Friends can hug, right?"
Marigold couldn't argue with that logic. "You're right. Friends can hug. But I have to admit, that was unexpected."
As they continued their conversation, Clover watched from a distance, his inner turmoil evident in his expressions. He couldn't deny the feeling of jealousy that had stirred within him, and it left him in an amusing state of emotional disarray.
Jasper leaned in, his tone teasing. "Boss, if you're not jealous, then why do you look like you've just seen a ghost?"
Clover grumbled, "I'm not jealous. I just... it's strange to see Marigold hugging someone else, that's all."
Jasper laughed heartily. "Well, you better get used to it, boss. Looks like Bruno's part of the gang now."
Back with Marigold and Bruno, their conversation flowed naturally. They talked about everything from their favorite books to their future aspirations. Bruno was genuinely interested in her thoughts and ideas, and it was clear that their friendship had deepened.
Unbeknownst to them, Clover couldn't take it anymore. He decided to approach the duo, still trying to maintain his stoic facade despite the turmoil inside.
As he reached Marigold and Bruno, he cleared his throat and gave them a nod. "Marigold, Bruno, what are you two up to?"
Marigold smiled at him. "Just catching up, Clover. It's a beautiful day."
Bruno added with a friendly nod, "We were discussing the latest bestsellers. You should join us, Clover."
Clover's response was more comical than he had intended. He cleared his throat again and managed a stiff nod. "I suppose I could. After all, I am the environmental science major around here."
Marigold and Bruno exchanged a look but didn't comment on the absurdity of his statement. Instead, they continued their conversation, with Clover now part of the group.
A little later, as the trio chatted, Clover noticed Bruno's casual yet friendly gestures with Marigold. They were more like the interactions between friends, but to Clover, it felt like a hurricane of emotions swirling inside him.
Just as he was trying to regain his composure, Bruno, in a friendly manner, placed a hand on Marigold's shoulder as he made a point about a book. Clover couldn't take it any longer, and his face turned an absurd shade of green.
Jasper leaned in, unable to resist the opportunity to tease his boss. "Boss, you really are turning green with jealousy. You look like you've just seen something you can't believe."
Clover shot him an exasperated look. "I'm not jealous! It's just... it's just..."
Jasper finished the sentence for him with a grin. "It's just that you've never seen Marigold like this with anyone else, right?"
Clover huffed, unable to deny the truth in Jasper's words.
Meanwhile, Marigold, Bruno, and Clover continued their conversation, unaware of the comedic turmoil brewing within Clover. Despite his best efforts, the green hue of jealousy wouldn't fade from his face, and the scene was becoming more absurd by the moment.
As the day turned to evening and the trio eventually parted ways, the unexpected hug and its ripple effects had left an indelible mark on their friendships. Marigold and Bruno had solidified their bond as friends, while Clover's comical yet jealous demeanor had provided a humorous interlude to their day.
And so, the campus life of Marigold, Clover, and Bruno continued, marked by rivalry, friendship, and the occasional bout of hilarious jealousy that had transformed their relationships in unexpected ways.
The annual campus festival had arrived, and the atmosphere was electric with excitement. Marigold, Clover, and Bruno had all decided to attend separately, unaware that their paths would soon cross, leading to a series of comedic misunderstandings.
Marigold wandered through the bustling festival grounds, taking in the sights and sounds. She had agreed to meet up with Emily at the food stalls, and as she approached one of the stands, she spotted a familiar face behind the counter. It was Bruno, wearing a colorful apron and serving cotton candy.
Marigold couldn't help but laugh at the sight. "Bruno, working at a cotton candy stand? I've seen it all now."
Bruno grinned, his charming personality fully intact. "Well, Marigold, everyone needs a little sweetness in their lives, don't they? Want some cotton candy?"
Marigold agreed and received a fluffy pink cloud on a stick, all while exchanging playful banter with Bruno. She couldn't deny that he had a way of making even the most unexpected situations enjoyable.
As Marigold continued her exploration of the festival, she suddenly heard a voice calling her name. It was Clover, standing near the ring-toss game and holding a stuffed bear, clearly intending to win it for her.
Marigold raised an eyebrow. "Clover, trying your luck at the ring-toss? I didn't take you for a fan of stuffed animals."
Clover smirked, his competitive spirit evident. "Well, I thought it would be a nice gift for you. Care to give it a try? I've almost got it."
Marigold took a turn at the game, and to her surprise, she managed to ring one of the bottles. The carnival worker handed her a stuffed bear, which she presented to Clover with a smirk. "Looks like I won."
Clover chuckled, conceding defeat. "Well played, Marigold."
As Marigold continued her festival journey, she couldn't help but wonder about the string of coincidences. First, she encountered Bruno at a cotton candy stand, and then Clover trying to win a stuffed bear for her. It seemed that the festival had become an unintentional battleground for their attention.
Later, when Marigold decided to watch a lively dance performance on the main stage, she saw both Clover and Bruno in the audience, each of them looking her way with a subtle air of competitiveness.
The performance featured colorful costumes and energetic choreography, and the audience was swept away by the rhythm. At one point, a confetti cannon went off, showering the crowd with colorful paper, including Marigold, Clover, and Bruno.
Confetti clung to their clothes and hair, turning the rivalry into an unintentional spectacle. Marigold couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of the situation. "Is this really happening?"
Bruno, covered in confetti, grinned. "It's all part of the festival fun, Marigold."
Clover, who had confetti stuck to his jacket, joined in. "Looks like we're all in this together."
The dance performance ended, and the three of them decided to regroup and enjoy the festival together. They visited various booths, tried games, and indulged in festival food. It was a lighthearted and unexpected turn of events, with the rivalry taking a backseat to friendship and laughter.
At the festival's closing fireworks display, Marigold, Clover, and Bruno found themselves sitting on the grass, gazing up at the colorful bursts of light in the night sky. The tensions and misunderstandings of the day had given way to a sense of camaraderie.
Bruno pointed at a particularly impressive firework. "You know, Marigold, they say fireworks are like the emotions of the heart, bursting forth with vibrant colors."
Clover chimed in, his tone more earnest than usual. "It's like the unexpected bonds that can form even amidst rivalry."
Marigold smiled, her heart lighter than it had been in a long time. "You're right. Sometimes, all it takes is a little festival magic to bring people together."
As the final firework painted the night sky with its brilliance, the three friends watched in silence, their friendship stronger than any rivalry, and their hearts illuminated by the colorful bursts of laughter and connection that had filled their day at the campus festival.Download Novelah App
