Chapter 26

While in the library, Emma suddenly remembered something. "Wait, Lucas, do you have the book?"
Lucas asked in surprise, "Yes, why?"
"Give it to me. It's possible that the book holds the answer to where the author of the book is now," Emma said.
In the dimly lit library of secrets, Emma held "The Chronicles of the Hidden Realm" in her hands, a sense of anticipation hanging in the air. Lucas handed over the book with a mix of curiosity and hope.
Emma carefully flipped through the pages, searching for any clues or hidden messages that might lead them to the elusive author. As she scanned each page, her eyes widened when she noticed faint, almost imperceptible markings in the margins.
"Look at this," Emma said, her voice filled with excitement. She pointed to a series of intricate symbols and annotations, barely noticeable to the naked eye.
Lucas and Daniel leaned closer to get a better look. "What do they mean?" Daniel asked, his curiosity piqued.
Emma traced her finger along the symbols as she deciphered their meaning. "These are notations made by the author. It's like a trail of breadcrumbs leading us to the next clue."
Lucas furrowed his brow, trying to make sense of the symbols. "So, what's the first step? Where do these breadcrumbs lead?"
Emma began to explain her findings. "The symbols seem to be connected to locations and landmarks in Elderdale Forest. Look here; this one resembles the clearing with the stone door, and this one points to the ancient oak tree."
Daniel nodded in understanding. "So, we follow the symbols, and they will guide us to where the author might be?"
"That's the idea," Emma replied, her excitement growing. "But we need to be cautious. The forest is vast and filled with challenges. We should proceed step by step, following the symbols and any other clues we find."
Lucas glanced at the book, then at his friends, determination in his eyes. "Let's do it. We've come this far, and we can't stop now. We'll find the author and the missing pages, no matter what it takes."
With renewed determination, the trio set out to follow the trail of symbols, embarking on a new chapter of their quest. The library had provided them with a guide, but the challenges ahead were still unknown. As they ventured deeper into Elderdale Forest, their bond grew stronger, and their resolve remained unshaken.
Together, they would uncover the secrets of "The Chronicles of the Hidden Realm" and the mysteries of their intertwined families. The forest held the answers they sought, and they were ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead to unlock the final chapters of their destiny.
While on their journey, they found the author, Alistair Sterling. They knocked on his door, and when he opened it, he exclaimed, "You?!" in surprise, as if he knew the three of them.
"Do you know us?" Daniel asked, also puzzled.
"N-no, just leave!" he angrily said, and he was about to close the door when Lucas suddenly blocked it.
"Wait, we need your help. We know that only you can answer the questions about the story in The Chronicles," Lucas said while blocking the door with his body.
Alistair let out a sigh and finally relented. "I-I don't know what you're talking about," he stammered, avoiding eye contact as if hiding a secret.
"You're the author of this book, aren't you?" Daniel asked, showing him Chronicles of the Hidden Realm.
He was startled to see the book that Daniel held. "Please, we're begging you. We have many questions, and we know that only you can answer them," Emma pleaded.
After a few hours, they managed to convince Alistair, the author of the book, to help them.
"The one you're holding is the original book of the Chronicles of the Hidden Realm; where did you find it?" asked Alistair as he stood, looking doubtful.
Emma quickly responded, "I traveled because it's such a rare book, and at that time, Lucas was looking for it, so I made the effort to find it."
"Is there anything you know about a missing page in the book?" Lucas inquired.
Alistair replied, "Many stories have sprung from the Chronicles of the Hidden Realm, some fabricated, but all the originals have been removed."
Lucas couldn't contain his curiosity any longer. "But why were the pages removed, and why were our families kept in the dark about our roles in this story?"
"Because of the gruesome tale of your parents," Alistair replied.
Alistair Sterling's voice grew somber as he delved into the past, explaining the dark history that had kept their families in the dark for so long.
"Your parents were members of rival tribes in the hidden realm," Alistair began. "Your families were never meant to come together, and the emergence of your symbols cast doubt in their hearts."
Emma, Lucas, and Daniel exchanged puzzled glances. The revelation about their families' rivalries and the connection to the hidden realm left them stunned.
"The members of your family killed each other over wealth," Alistair added, leaving the three of them shocked by his revelation.
The room fell into a heavy silence as Alistair Sterling's words hung in the air. Emma, Lucas, and Daniel exchanged incredulous glances, struggling to come to terms with the shocking revelation.
Lucas was the first to break the silence, his voice tinged with disbelief. "Our families killed each other over wealth?"
Alistair nodded solemnly. "Yes, it was a tragic chapter in our realm's history. The allure of power and riches drove them to commit unspeakable acts against one another. That's why 'The Chronicles of the Hidden Realm' holds the key to both your families' redemption and the healing of our realm."
Emma's eyes glistened with unshed tears as the weight of their families' past actions settled upon her. "This is... beyond anything we could have imagined."
