Chapter 22: Forgotten

" I will protect you until the day I die, remember that Christine" the seven years old Voltaire said to Christine while they are sitting under the Oak tree.
" I will protect you too even if it cost my life" she said smiling from ear to ear, not noticing the red tint painting Voltaire's whole face, as if he is burning up.
Same promise, different endings, one broken promise and two broken hearts. Day, afternoon, night until dawn, Christine never stop going to the forest just to sit under the Oak tree and wait for Voltaire since the day he left her there. It became a routine for her and suddenly she forgot.
' What does he look like again?'
Years of longing for him makes her desperate for other things, she wants somebody to be by her side, she wants somebody to replace his memories for her to heal from the pain. No one predicted that it will be Alston and for her, Crystal ruined everything.
" You will leave the village?" she asked with her chest tightening.
" Yes"  Alston looks at her with sad eyes but he knew that he needs to do this.
" You will leave me for Crystal?"  she asked one
" She is my lover and you are like a sister to me. We always knew that we need to seperate ways somehow and it is today"
"But I love you"
" and I love you too" he said as he turn his back, ready to leave.
" You promised"  she said, her voice cracking and her tears falling frome her face. Three times is not enough to make him stay by her side.
" I never promised anything"  and with that, he left Christine alone at their use to be shared roof eversince their parents died. That's right, Alston never promised her anything, it was Voltaire who she wants to forget just like he did to her.
She sat on the floor with her back pressing against the wooden wall hugging her knees. " He is right, she took Voltaire and Alston will follow. Uncle, can I be her instead?" she said looking up to prevent her tears from falling but it seems like it won't stop.
"I feel bad for you my dear, if you want to get them back, I can help you" the man appeared suddenly and offered a kind smile as he keep on stroking her hair.
" Thank you Uncle"
" Anything for you my sweet angel" he said as they hug each other tightly, one thinking that they are not alone anymore and one celebrating that the problem will get taken care of. It is dangerous yet comforting.
A defeaning silence welcomed Veena as she opened her eyes, looking around and realizing it's her own realm. Feeling at peace yet she is alone thinking if Scorch and Elena are in good hands. A few months ago she is fine doing her work, roaming the earth because people doesn't see her, she is like wind when she walks and she loves it like that. However, everything change when Scorch came and Elene turned eighteen but still she is glad to know her past. It is painful but it's true, it is something she yearns for over the years. Questions still lingers on her mind as she wonder why Christine did it, she needs Elena to answer for her. She needs to know if Christine forgot their vow, a vow for eternity as sisters by heart. She saw it and she knew that it was true, that is not just a dream but a memory she saw in her sleep.
" I'm sorry for suddenly appearing in your house with Alston and living here all of a sudden, I know that you worry as I am a stranger but please let me do what I can to return your kindness" Crystal said as she bow her head to Christine who looked like she didn't know what to say or do. She remain standing and blinking to Crystal who is now kneeling on the floor with her head still looking down.
"I apologize if you feel like you are not welcome, in my defense I was just shocked to see Alston bought another person home and unconscious. Please rise up Crystal" Christine said with a kind smile on her face and Crystal did what she has told, she held her hands and said.
" I vow and my heart to take, that I, Cristine from the village in the south, vow to be a family and become a sister by heart of Crystal from the Southwest"
"I vow with all of my heart" Crystal said while tears are falling from her eyes same with Christine.
"Sisters?"
"Sisters"
It was a good memory to look at, as they are not enemies in the first place. Beautiful ladies, strong yet fragile like porcelain dolls crafted by young minds only to be put behind the cupboard. Was it a lie? Did she vow with honesty and sincerity for nothing ? The betrayal stowed upon her, the cruelty of people, the life that she had lost that day and the autumn eyes filled with anger looking at her suffering self made her ask. What made Christine do that?
"It's good to know that pretty little demon is finally awake" a woman with royal blue suit, black long hair and white heels appeared near her bed made of roses. Her golden eyes staring at her like a hunter ready to kill it's prey anytime. Who would have known that an angel will visit a demon in her own domain, where no one else can see?.
"You have come a long way Ruby just to see if I am conscious, what do you want?" she asked as she lazily staring at the space as if something is interesting.
"Straightforward I see, I want you gone. Is it too, much to ask?" Ruby said while taking out her dagger in her pocket. She cut her wrist using it and like a natural scenario to her, the dagger absorb her blood, changing its color from silver to gold. It appears larger unlike its usual form and eventually turned into a sword. Veena paid no attention to it, rather than to feel threatened, she is amused. The Ruby that she knew is a healer, liquid is her forte not sword. Their world is changing and she knew that the people she once knew have faced the changes too but it is not enough.
"You learned how to wield a sword just to kill me? What an honor Ruby" standing up, walking towards the hunter, an obsidian sword appeared on her right hand.
"Do you want me to teach you the basics?"
Suddenly the hunter became the prey and the prey became the hunter. There's a reason why Veena is alone and well monitored, the council gives her lighter works and with that her bloodlust won't be triggered which can cause havoc in every realm. But of course, nobody told Ruby that nor she knew about it. After all, Ruby is just a healer who walks a different path.
