Chapter 12: A Father's Pain The call center was bathed in a dim glow as Brinana and Timothy sat in the breakroom, poring over their notes and discussing their latest findings. The torment of Graham's ghost had taken a toll on them, but their determination to bring him peace remained unwavering. "I can't shake the image of Graham's torment," Brinana said, her voice heavy with emotion. "He's reliving his pain over and over, and we need to find a way to free him from it." Timothy nodded, his gaze distant. "Agreed. We've come so far, and we can't let him down now." Just then, a figure entered the breakroom, looking weary and drained. It was Mark Dawson, a call center agent who had been with the company for years. He had a reputation for being reserved and enigmatic, and his presence now added to the eerie atmosphere that surrounded the call center. "Hey, Mark," Brinana greeted, offering a weary smile. "Long night?" Mark nodded, his expression distant. "Yeah, you could say that. The calls just never seem to end." Timothy's curiosity got the better of him. "Mark, have you ever experienced anything... unusual here? Like strange occurrences or unexplained phenomena?" Mark's eyes flickered with something that resembled recognition, but he quickly masked it with a shake of his head. "Nah, it's just the usual stress and exhaustion. Nothing out of the ordinary." Brinana exchanged a knowing glance with Timothy. They had a feeling that Mark knew more than he was letting on, and they were determined to get to the bottom of it. As the conversation continued, Brinana gently prodded, "Mark, we've been researching the history of the call center, and we've come across some... unsettling things. Do you know anything about the incidents that have occurred here?" Mark's gaze faltered for a moment, a flicker of emotion passing over his features. "I've heard rumors, like everyone else. But rumors are just rumors, right?" Timothy leaned in, his voice soft but intent. "Mark, we're not here to spread rumors. We're here to uncover the truth, to put an end to the haunting that's been tormenting this place for years." Mark's eyes met Timothy's, and for a brief moment, Brinana saw a flash of pain and vulnerability. But just as quickly, it was gone, replaced by a guarded expression. "You wouldn't understand," Mark said quietly, his voice tinged with resignation. Brinana's voice was filled with empathy. "Mark, we want to understand. We want to help." After a moment of hesitation, Mark's resolve seemed to crumble, and he sighed. "Fine, I'll tell you. But you won't believe me." Timothy's voice was gentle. "We're here to listen, Mark. Whatever you have to say, we're ready to hear it." Mark took a deep breath, his gaze fixed on the table. "Graham... he was my father." Brinana and Timothy exchanged a stunned glance. The revelation was unexpected, adding a personal dimension to the haunting that they hadn't anticipated. "Your father?" Brinana repeated softly. "You mean Graham?" Mark nodded, his voice filled with a mixture of pain and bitterness. "Yeah, Graham Dawson. He was my father, and he died here, in this call center." Timothy's voice was careful. "Mark, we're so sorry for your loss. But why didn't you tell us before?" Mark's shoulders slumped, and he let out a humorless laugh. "What difference would it make? Nobody cared about him when he was alive, and nobody cares now that he's dead. I've tried to forget about it, to move on." Brinana's voice was gentle. "Mark, we do care. We've been trying to uncover the truth behind what happened to your father. We want to bring him peace." Mark's gaze met Brinana's, and she saw a glimmer of hope in his eyes. "You really mean that?" Timothy nodded, his expression sincere. "We wouldn't be here if we didn't. We're determined to put an end to the torment he's been experiencing." As the weight of their words settled in, Mark seemed to visibly relax, his guard lowering slightly. "You don't know what he went through... what I went through. My father was a good man, but this place chewed him up and spit him out. He was always stressed, always exhausted. And then... one day, he just disappeared." Brinana's voice was sympathetic. "We know about his disappearance, Mark. We've been uncovering the events that led up to it." Mark's gaze grew distant, his voice a mixture of bitterness and sorrow. "He left a note, you know. A note that said he couldn't take it anymore, that the whispers and the voices were driving him insane." Timothy's voice was solemn. "We found that note. But we also found a way to communicate with him. We're determined to help him find peace." A mix of emotions played across Mark's face—relief, gratitude, and a lingering sadness. "If you can really do that... if you can help my father find peace, then I'm with you." Brinana and Timothy exchanged a knowing glance. With Mark's involvement, their pursuit of the truth took on a new dimension. They had a personal connection to the haunting now, a reason to bring an end to the torment that had consumed Graham's spirit for far too long. As they continued to delve into the mysteries of the call center, they knew that their path would be challenging. But with Mark by their side, they were more determined than ever to confront the malevolent presence that held Graham captive, to break the cycle of torment, and to give Graham the closure he deserved.
